Big Shingaurds

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, since I have tongue in my shin guard, I'm looking for a big shinguard, that can overlap my tongue, but in a big way. Like the pictures in PHEW when you see the players have their tongues in?

A picture of Heatley:

seen in PHEW with his s17 skates

What size are You? I have a pair of excellent D&R 17" shins that wrap nicely behind the calf. Never worn since I'm in 14" shins.

thanks for the advice pantherfan, but right now im trying to find out all the suggestions about the shins. SO far i'm leaning into buying the RBK 6ks.

i dont use any tape at all with them, because the straps are really good

this was my first pair of shinpads since bantam so i went from a 14" pair to a 16" pair, and im 5'10

they sit on the top of my foot

I have cheap Vector 4 shins, and they are wide and hold great over the tongues with the straps they came with. I like them a lot. Best $30 I spent this year on gear.

Hey Kevin, I wear my shins in the same style. I like them long and beefy, basically just like Spezza's foto. I found the perfect shin in the NB Supreme90 (is NOT narrow) but it appears the RBK 9k would also give you that 'fit'. Go one or two sizes larger and you should be good, however it sounds like you might grow out of them soon!

I'm 6'1-2" give or take, what size shins would do this for me best you think?

Probably 17" but they might be too big. I'm exactly 6'3" and use 17" and they fit like they do in those Heatley pictures..

I like to rock the same look, so generally I'm a 14" but I got a RBK 9K in 15" and I think it looks good. Took a few skates before I got used to the extra size. But You get used to it.

I'm 6'3" and wear a 16" but I go Jordan style. If you are 6'1"- 6'2" and want to wear them out I would think 16" should be good--17" might be a tad too long.

another vote for the RBK's... I wear mine over the tongues and tape underneath the knee only w/no straps... works great.
