cch

strange slash outcomes

Recommended Posts

OK so I'm playing in my beer league game this week and get a slash to the left hand while its on my stick (I'm lefty so my bottom hand). It hurt but my league is full of hacks and bad reffing so i really didn't pay much attention to it. After my shift I noticed that my pinky finger felt really weird so I took my glove off and my hand was covered in blood and the tip of my pinky looked as though some one stepped on me. I do use some really crappy gloves, TPS ice attacks circa 98, but i really don't get how a slash can almost take off the tip of my finger. So now I have five stitches in my pinky and can't play for a week, the doctor told me it looked like my nail had gone thru my finger. What I would like to know is if anyone has ever had experience with something like this because I don't think i have ever heard of any like this happening after a slash.

Not at all uncommon. Perhaps the slash missed the padding, was strong enough to get through the padding, or just plain hit you in the wrong place.

Same thing happened to me when i was younger , at first i thought a skate hit me (palms were all torn up) but then realized it was a slash

The other night i went to hit someone on the boards(AAA) and he ducked and i went head first hard into the boards... cut my forehead open, it was just on impact as my cage didn't ride up, 3 stitches later and a beat up face

The stick may not have have actually cut your pinky finger, so much as it split it open.

Although I have not experienced it in hockey, I have seen it in happen in softball and rugby. In these cases the force of the impact from the ball (with no sharp edges) causes a deep, cut-like split.

This could happen if your gloves are too small. If your fingertips are pushing on the end of the glove, the padding may not cover them properly, leaving the end of your finger more prone to getting direct contact from a stick.

I haven't needed 5 stitches in my pinky before, but I have gotten whacked on it a bunch of times. My Vapor XXXX Pros seemed not to like my pinky too much and any time I've played with them, I've come off with a swollen pinky. Haven't really had any of those troubles with my NBH 4-Rolls though...
