Beer league jerseys - names or no names?

Recommended Posts

one of the dumbest things ive seen from these leagues was my budddies team which put a letter in the C and A spot. The goalie had an F for Franchise, one guy had an S for SNiper, there was a D for dangler, G for gongshow, etc etc. they were mocked by the whole league. strangely enough they did not have names on the back of their jerseys

I'd be embarrased to play AGAINST them if they pulled that crap. It hurt to read that.

If nothing else, we can all agree that is insane.

When we had our jerseys made, we put name plates on the back. Everyone seems to like it.

Seriously, If you have a problem with it, maybe you have to much time on your hands.

Most of the guys that care about having their name on the back are also the ones that care more about their personal stats than team wins. A sweeping generalization to be sure but it's something I have seen time and time again and is right more often than not.

I think the point, which was brought up by someone just a few posts above, might be: what is the priority of the person who has to have matching equipment or the sharpest looking gear? Isn't that self-centered too? At least personal performance (goals, assists, etc.) helps the team. Looking cool doesn't help you win games.

Anyone who buys gear solely based on looks is buying for the wrong reasons in my book. It should always be about fit. As for matching gear, depends on why they buy it. If you need something new and you buy something that fits in your team colors, I fail to see an issue. Even if someone does buy gloves or a helmet that matches their team, that stands out to me far less than someone wearing a red helmet when the team colors are black and white.

The league I play in requires names, numbers and matching pants, helmets and gloves. I've played in other leagues that didn't require anything other than names. I don't have any more fun when my equipment matches. I'd much rather save that $.

I understand numbers and can even see the argument for an A so the ref knows who to talk to, but I don't think having a white helmet with a black jersey ruins a game of hockey.

I run a men's league team and purchase the jerseys for the players out of the yearly registration fees (existing players keep jerseys from year-to year). No one on my team cares about the jerseys. I buy the cheapest possible--no names, no letters, just numbers. I have never heard of teams having elections or some other selection process for captains, but some guys who run a team will self-anoint themselves I think it's pretty cheesy to give yourself the "C.”

In a beer league  that's nuts

For rep hockey yes, but not in a beer league.

Yeah, I'm lucky, my team's core color is black. I saw a team Saturday that had red pants and green and red gloves. Hope they found them on sale.

I dont care on names... costs too much anyhow. I know when we tarvel for tournaments, I see names almost more often.

I do hate it when the team does not have enough jerseys and has an odd one playing..

Numbers and colors... all I need

They found a batch of old NJ Devils gear.

Personally, I don't like names, but that's across the board, pee wees to pros. As for beer league, it really doesn't matter to me. I don't think less of those who have names.

On a side note though, we have an adult tourney team, and although we're in the south, we're all from other places. We thought it would be cool to each have our native cities across our backs. Ultimately we voted NOT to do it, but I still thought it was neat idea. -especially since at all these southern tourneys, we're mostly northerners or Canadian anyhow.

Off the top of my I think we have:

White Plains

Tupper Lake

Rochester

Nashua

Worcester

Atlanta

Ithica

Morristown

Montreal

Philly

Concorde

It certainly woulda been a conversation starter ;)
