X72's tore already

Recommended Posts

FILE0244.jpg

After a total of one hour on the ice, my X72's tore. As you can see, it's where the mesh gusset attaches to the palm side of the middle finger. I'm sure I'd have to go through Eagle to get this warrantied, but I'm not sure I want to wait that long. I'm assuming they'd cover this under warranty, but would have to go back to Canada? This isn't a very common problem with Eagle's is it? I might just see if I can have someone sew it back up for me, and hope it doesn't happen anywhere else or spread up the rest of the finger.

I purchased a pair of Eagles from my LHS and the stitching came loose at the index finger. I brought it back to the shop and they stitched it back for me free of charge.

Go to a LHS and get it repaired for 5 bucks.

To tell you the truth it doesn't surprise me that Eagle might have a little problem trying to sew mesh and leather together.

Looking at the pic it's just the seam that went. 5 dollar repair.

Eagle=garbage.

Odd. I've owned more Eagles than problems mentioned in this thread and haven't had one problem with durability, the one palm I did go through(took over a year) was replaced for free. Guys like Thornton would rather have Eagles over the CCM's he's under contract to wear. ...And one of the most popular newer gloves in the NHL and with your high school crowd is a lesser quality Eagle knockoff. Totally garbage glove, let me tell you.

Unless he's talking about those lower end chinese-made Eagles that were garbage. I had a pair of X46 and they were terrible (the ones that had loose stitching after a week.) I should've listened to the guys on MSH about this particular glove but I went ahead and bought them anyway. I ended up selling them on Craigslist.

The higher end Eagles I'm using now, CP94 tagged as X72 I believe, absolutely love them. Best fitting glove I've ever owned and it's made me a sucker for Tufftek and Digital.

haha im a clown. OK.

Tell me this. In the last 3 years why is that Eagle's have had as many problems as they have had?

It started with them not being able to ship any gloves because of how stupid they ran their company. They couldnt complete orders so they stopped taking them until they had shipped out current orders. After that, they started making their chinese gloves, and also canadian quality went down the tubes. Which is why you see so many gussets torn and palms falling off. They have NO quality control.

Whatever, call me a clown. Buy your eagles and watch the palm fall off a month later.

WAHOO!

Yes, he must be a clown because his opinion differs from yours. Modsquad number 1 cliche PP I think applies here.

"Garbage" is a clear statement. That doesn't mean "I don't like them," it's telling people that they are worthless trash.

I don't like the one90 OPS, but you don't hear me calling them garbage. That would be an ignorant statement.

Yes, they had problems but you act like they're alone in having trouble getting product to dealers. The stitching has been flawless for all 4 Eagle gloves I've had and that includes an additional replacement palm on a pair after over a year of use. I've seen much worse quality control on MIA/Warrior, NBH, Easton and CCM/RBK. Gloves are still handmade, they aren't going to be perfect.

Its not even that i dont like them. I just know they make a sub-standard product. They are ridiculously over-priced, and the majority of their products fall apart in the first few months of ownership. Prior to their chinese switch/lack of quality control they made a great product. Which is why people associate them with being a good brand. I guarantee you that if they were a new company that came out with the shitty products they make, they would get ridiculed on here, just like Brooklenite, Rebellion, and a host of other lesser known companies.

How are they ridiculously overpriced? Compare the prices to other Canadian made gloves(that you don't have to buy 6+ pairs at a time)... AND they don't sell direct. The "majority" isn't even close to accurate, that's a big liberty on the isolated number of issues with their Canadian made gloves... and even then, Eagle has been generous in their warranty department, Canadian or Chinese made. Just try and call NBH to see if they'll repalm your 5 year old gloves with their newest palm for free, good luck.

Those companies weren't trashed on here because of quality, it was their branding and marketing.

Both sets of Eagle gloves I've owned (both Canadian) were flawless in terms of construction. Take a look at Fury gloves if you want to see horrible manufacturing.

I hate statistical generlizations from small incidence. I would be really curious if a few problems DID indeed indicate a drop in quality of Eagle gloves?

Anyway Eagles are my go to gloves and after about 10 pairs I can say that for me they are quality gloves and worthy of a small investment

I would say, YES. The quality has gone downhill, slightly. ...but they're also working with different materials and putting out more product than before. QC has gone down vastly in most companies:

*off-line holders on NBH and Graf skates.

*separating composite outsoles on NBH and graf skates.

*tearing liners in RBK/CCM skates.

*Oddities in sewing on the Supreme series glove from NBH, particularly on the pinkie.

*Stick breakage on almost any first run stick. Not to mention the blades on the SL/SE and the original XXX lite.

*Cracking on the bauer 4000 helmet.

etc...

Here we're talking about 2 incidents of about a 1/2" of blown stitching. This is about a 5 min fix, if you take your time.

I honestly think the mesh had something to do with that. Some materials don't mix well. Back in the day, the top end eastons had pittards palms and the stitching around the perimiter ripped like crazy.

I've seen some pretty good blown stitches on Easton's mesh gussets... The palm isn't leather(as beflar suggested) but it is a valid conclusion.

To me a 5 dollar repair and 5 minute turn around time doesn't bother me in the least. It happens. You will love the x72's.

The point is he is going to love the X72 Eagles. I had the same thing happen to a pair of x70's. I fixed them and wore them for five years. Now just bought the PPF's. So when I say the stitch thing is nothing, it's because I've been through the same thing.

Your not going to remember the stitch years from now.

I was talking about pre-Vaughn Eagle fixing the issue I had... This is why I said "has" as opposed to "will" in my statement. I'm not predicting the future of Eagle in regards to customer service and I wasn't attempting to.

I had my mom sew them up today. Second set of my gloves my mom has fixed for me, and they feel good as new now. She said she reinforced it a few times. Thanks mom. :D

You're right Beflar, I really like these gloves. They need to be broken in and loosened up a little, but that will come with a few more ice times. If it came across as a rag on Eagle for a missed stitch, it's not what I was going for. I just thought it was a bummer that I was unfortunate to get a lemon stitch that came loose after an hour, especially after being so excited to get these things.

X46s were Canadian made by Michel Ferland.

I thought all Eagles made in Canada would have the Canadian flags on them as well?

nvm, I just looked up pics of the x46 and it looks like it does have the flags.

Got a pair of PPFi's and the same thing happened. It's no big deal for me, ask the girlfriend to stitch it back and absolutely no more problems.

Fell in love w/ the PPFi's the moment I put them on, no other glove felt the same afterward.
