skate tongue replacement

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, long time since I last posted.

Coming from the XX skate, I've been really satisfied with the one 90 (very nice skate!!!), but after an year and a half, it's now a matter of time before it dies out.

I'm looking into buying 95s now, but the one thing I don't like (other than the cosmetics :P ) is the tongue, with that 'lace bite protector' thing. I really like the tongue on the 90, so first I thought of replacing the 95 tongue with the 90 tongue, but since I loved the 90 so much, I would rather keep it as it is as a backup.

Then I realized I still had my old supreme 4000s, and decided to replace the 95 tongue with the 4000 tongue. The colors will probably flow nice too!

Now comes the problem: my 4000s are 1~1.5 size(s) smaller than my current size. Will this affect the length of the tongue if I replace them??

And yes, they are out of 90s my size. :(

Thank you in advance for any help.

It's definitely a matter of the toungue on the 4000's. Some companies (Graf Ultra Series) had shorter tongues installed (black ones), while other companies like NBH had longer tongues come stock on their Vapor series. I doubt 1 size will be too much of a problem, but if the 4000 series had a long tongue come stock shouldn't even be an issue.

OK, I'm in the same situation, only I have a pair of tongues from a pair of Supreme Golds. I also have One95's by the way. I've taken the skates and tongues to four local shoe repair stores in the area and they all have told me that the swap can't be made because apparently the stock tongue on the One95 is sewn into a part of the plastic toe cap and none of these shops have the tools to sewn anything in plastic. How should I go about making this swap?

(Sorry to somewhat jack this thread)

Cobbler will cost you the most but will give you the best finished product. Otherwise you can un-stitch the tongue and then glue/re-sew your new one on.

I believe a sewing awl will do you fine. You can probably find it at any fabric store. Although, I still recommend the Cobbler route. Your new tongues will be straight, stitched on tightly, and generally not sloppy. That's my recommendation.

I replaced the tongues on my 40's. Went to a local cobbler, he did it for 30. He stitched and glued the new tongue in. Looks like it came with the new tongues stock.

I wouldn't recommend doing the switch yourself unless you have some handy tailor skills. There are a couple LHS's near me that do it, check out the hockey shops in your area, they may offer that service. Otherwise, I'd say a cobbler is the way to go.

Okay so I'm looking for replacement tongues for my skates, I can't seem to find where I can buy the nash sniper tongues. All I can find is the A&R and I heard they suck, can anyone point me in the right direction? Couldn't find anything on ebay either, I'm in Canada if that helps.

not any of the process of changing the tongues i'm having problems with, it's finding the tongues in the first place. Anywhere I look only has the A&R and couldn't find a single one on ebay.ca or .com. Don't really want Graf ones but I will if i have to, looking for some that are extra long and I hate to not be able to use a pair of skates because of something so minor. I'd like to get them fixed and ready to go before pond hockey season they are my backups
