I searched but found nothing...

Many people me included still play through a minor cold, but what about flu?

let's say you sent 2-3 days in bed with flu (high fever & stuff like that) - how long would you wait before getting back into the game?

my irrational though was 'right away', but I also hear that there might be some heart related consequences for doing so?

I'm obviously no doctor, but in my experiences as long as I've felt I've been able to play I have. For some reason I never felt that bad when I was playing while I had it, but after the game is a whole different story.

Pop a few sudafed, take a pre game dump just to cover your bases, cover your mouth around your mates when you cough and sneeze and go play. Ive taken medicine with me to the bench before many times (sore throat spray, cough medicine, suckers, etc.).

Usually you stop feeling bad until after like Kosy said, and hell maybe you'll even sweat it out :)

I got the Stomach flu today but im pretty sure I can't play because I fainted when I got up out of bed. So I'm really interested to see what some people think.

Wait, if you have stomach and are going projectile from both ends it is bad news playing. I did that a couple of seasons ago, i couldn't hold any food down and was going to the toilet, with 'shit-piss' for want of a better phrase, far too regularly.

Over the course of the game i became so dehydrated i ended up passing out and waking up in hospital on an IV drip to get fluids back into me.

I'd say stay away until you are well enough to do everything else you do in a day. If you aren't going to work/school...you probably shouldn't go to hockey. If you are back to your regular schedule....include hockey in that.

Yeah I'm not going to school so I'm thinking of not playing saturday which really annoys me cos i haven't been on the ice in 3 weeks because of hoiday break and a knee injury.

If you are feeling like crap you will probably play like crap.I would wait until you feel close to 100%. Maybe test yourself out in practice first before you play a game. You also might be more likely to get injured if you're not feeling alert. BTW, I assume you mean the flu as in influenza, not "stomach flu". So it is not the number of days you rest but how you are feeling that should be the determining factor. I have heard that if you overexert with a fever, you could get an inflammation of the membrane of the heart, but it probably doesn't happen frequently (not a doctor though.)

I had the same thing not too long ago. 3 days after I first got it I went to my game and played 2 bad periods and then i knew i was just done for that game. I came back too early and then i was out for another couple days. From my experience I wouldn't come back until your feeling close to 100%.

Played today and felt okay, I got laid out and it cleared my sinuses (sp) and it got all over my cage and the other guy.

I go through the same process every year. Start out the season on fire and get my annual cold/fever sometime around the holidays due to stress. Then I come back and never feel back to normal. I'm well enough to play but there is something still lingering that takes away from my game and I don't usually shake it until March.

I've had several bouts of bronchitis since picking up hockey a few years ago. What's helped me is to take a multivitamin or those Airborne supplements as soon as I feel sick, and wash my hands or use the sanitizer like crazy. Knock on wood, I haven't had another bout in almost a year.

Last night I tried to play although I felt a little out of it. About 10-15 seconds into each shift I'd get so disoriented and confused I'd have to go back to the bench. Left halfway through the skate. Didn't want to do the hospital-IV thing. I even drank about 7 or 8 bottles of water that day...

I hate being sick. I couldn't play some shinny with my buddies on a pond in town (not our usual spot) because I had the flu today. I got no sleep, and was puking my guts up. I'm feeling better, but i'm going to wait until Saturday until I start playing again.

Caught a virus sometime ago, its lingered for a better part of a month, I'm now finally greeen phlegm free which is nice for me and my team mates.

I of course played right through it, especially dumb when you consider I would do x2 lengths of the rink and feel like passing out at its worst.

Take my doc's advice and just take a few weeks off to recoup your energy and beat the bug!

Virus lives for few days only, all the bad afterwards done by toxins left from virus. So from that pespective you are no threat for teammates in 2-3 days since you got sick. Another question, as mentioned before, if it makes sense to risk worsen your condition and play poorly anyway.

I find myself in similar situation once or twice a year, then I get sick and I really hate miss games or even practices, so typically I am getting back on ice before I recover completely.

I went to the doctor today, and I have a sinus infection. It's never a good idea to public skate with a sinus infection. All of your systems are down, and I came home and had a giant blister on my right ankle, which NEVER happens with my skates when I'm healthy.
