I don't know any particular ones that are wider but you can always take a heat gun to the plastic and then flatten it out a little to give it a wider profile. I'm pretty sure that's what some ppl do to add some more width. There was a defenseman in the NHL, I can't remember his name, but he modified his shin guards so they were almost as wide as goalie pads  there are some pretty crazy pictures of him.

sounds good, ill take a look.

So has anyone done the thing with the heat gun... does that weaken the plastic by any chance?

Just this past Sunday one of the taller guys I skate with gave his new Easton ST4 shin pads two thumbs up. He particularly liked the calf wrap that completely covers the back of the leg. It looked like he had a couple of tree trunks under him. Good luck!

does the heating actually work? would sticking them in an oven work to widen them?

Heating works....I do it to shins when I get them. I'm using a pair of Jofa 6070 and I just laid them flat took a hairdryer heated them up really nice and widened the bottom to wear I wanted it then held them under really cold running water to cool them faster....do that a couple times till you get it right and your set...haven't had any problems yet, taken all kind of shots and everything and it didn't affect durability

Oh....By the way, if you decide to do this...Just make sure you don't do it on carpet, like an idiot not thinking I did a pair on carpet.....Turns out my mom doesn't really enjoy having melted carpet in the basement

i actually don't get how you could use those things, are there no rules pertaining to how wide ur shin guards can be? cause those shins could actually hurt people / trip them up haha, ridiculous.

I suspect it was a blocking shots thing, or perhaps he just couldn't stand any pressure on the sides of his legs.

Anyway, it's taking the remolding thing too far.

I heated my shin pads up on the stove a few hours ago and they are sweet. I am not sure it's for blocking shots but it looks cool...I love it, It doesn't take much heat to do it though so be careful. I didn't make them as wide as that picture but they are cool.

really go easy on the heat. I thought i would heat them and just step on them to widen it and I almost caved them in. I play with a guy who has really wide pads and I am sure this is what he did. I always wanted that look. wider on the top is cool

Get high end Jofa/Reebok if you like wide shin pads. Look at Mission Fuel shin pads as well, specifically the Fuel 90 to 130 models or if you can still find a pair the Franklin line of shin pads. All these makes are wide and offer great protection.

i want mine wider overall, but it would be nice if i had bigger pads that wrap around the back too.

My Synergy 800's aren't real wide, but they have a really nice shin wrap. It wraps around the whole back of my shin, and it has plastic inserts as well. Really protective and really comfortable too. Although looking at the new Easton line, they look pretty similar to the S17 shin pads, except they have three straps on the back instead of two.

Those are probably Jofa's. Mostly all the pro's where them.

hahaha I know exactly what you mean by chicken legs, whenever I see people where those pads and see them on the ice, it looks so funny.

But yeah, definitely get the RBK's, my Mission's are pretty wide too, but my next pair are definitely the RBKS
