Hat trick hats?

Recommended Posts

I asked this on another board. The Boston Bruins collect all the hats and donate them to charity. But the person who gets the hat trick picks the hat that they like best, autographs it, and puts it on the bear head in the locker room. Then the next time someone gets a hatty, they auction the hat off.

Last I heard, when Wheeler got his hat trick, a woman threw her bra on the ice. Wheeler chose that and a C-cup bra was sitting on the bear in the locker room. Guess they are auctioning that off at some point.

Then it was Krejci, he got another bra.

At Verizon Center (Washington Capitals) the hats are collected at placed at Guest Services for pick-up by their owners. How they know who is telling the truth I have no idea. My assumption is that the extras are given to charity.

At Scotiabank Place, you can come to the arena the next day and get it back. But I would feel like a real moron doing that. If you like your hat so much, don't throw it on the ice. It's not a law or anything.

I remember Vanek scoring a hat trick last season, and my then 6 yr old just rifling his hat down from the upper level. After the game he wanted to know when he gets it back....ooops!

A guy I work with had his Bulldogs Calder Cup hat that he got from the Charity Golf Tourney he played in and was at Leafs/Habs a few years ago...Karberle got a hattie and he threw it...instantly went "ah crap!"

It would be funny if he was a kid...even funnier because he's in his mid forties *ha!*

That gave me a good laugh. Just like kids to emulate everything they see. Priceless.

Best thing I ever saw was Rick Middleton sitting on the B's bench wearing a cowboy hat that someone tossed out for his hatter.

That's what hockey really needs - higher quality of hat-trick hats.

I wonder if I can find an old bowler somewhere...

Funny, because hours after I posted that, we went to the Sabres game and Connolly had 2 late in the third with a lead. I asked Rob if he was going to throw his hat if Connolly got an empty netter. Luckily it was freezing outside, and he said, "Heck no, I'm not freezing on the way to the car!" (He had a wool hat!)

Unfortunately, hats like that aren't cheap. Unless the team lets you reclaim your hat, it's a bad idea for most of us.

There are, oddly, a couple of fairly cheap 'vintage' hat places near me (I have no idea why) - good spots to pick up a fairly significant 'Trick Hat' for the price of a couple of beers at the game. Then I just have to start going to more games and wearing an utterly ridiculous looking hat (I *never* look good in hats) until someone scores, then pull an Odd Job.

When I was a kid, I went to a Ranger game, forgot against who but it was Rangers Cap Night. During the game...forgot who... a Ranger got the trick and the Rangers and MSG got all their hats back. Took forever to clean, EVERYONE had a hat to throw.

Still think it was a conspiricy to get their hats back...wouldn't be shocked if they had another Rangers Cap Night.

That draws a very funny picture. Odd Job standing about 10 rows up & spins the hat. A vintage Bond reference. Thanks for the laugh.

Glad to oblige. :)

I'll start wearing my viking helmet, they would probably arrest me for terrorism if I threw that out on the ice.

Haha - next projects: one of those tartan sidecaps with the fake orange hair sprouting out the sides.

Do the Buds have a game on Paddy's Day this year?... hmmm...
