Crosby to miss All-Star Game

Recommended Posts

Seems to be starting a pattern here.

I understand that the team doesn't want to take a chance on an injury getting worse. But come on...A bruised knee?? Really? Over 1.7 million votes and a bruised knee keeps you out of what is basically a televised game of shinny.

Thoughts.

i know he is the face of hockey. but i have never liked sidney. did you see the stunt he pulled recently when he jumped the guy off the faceoff... didn't even take his bucket off or give the guy fair warning. HE WEARS A HALFIE, therefore he should take his helmet off to fight, or better yet he should play his game and let the other guys play theirs.

Bit of a kick in the teeth for all the fans that voted for him, not at all implying that it's his fault he's injured but I'd have hoped it was the Pens decision to keep him out of the game and not his. I'm obviously no pro but I know that if 1.7 million people had voted for me there'd be no way in hell I'd even contemplate not playing because I'd bruised my knee.

Call me a Crosby hater if you wish but I callz 'em as I see 'em.

Well you can debate if 1.7 million people voted for him or a couple hundred thousand computers did ......

Anyone that thinks he wouldn't be there if he could has absolutly zero clue what they are talking about. The guy does absolutely everything and anything that is asked of him by the league (which is way too much). He played his Jr hockey in Quebec and has tons of fans there - he's made it no secret that Montreal is his favorite place to play. It's doctors and team orders not to play. Lidstrom and Datsyuk were both voted in too and not playing.

I agree with what one analyst said on the NHL network - let the GMs or people within the league pick the all-stars and let the fans vote on who the starters should be. There are some guys that should be there and got left off.

He cares more about helping his team win (and they need the help) than playing in a "game of shinny"...

If he was healthy and didn't need this time he would obviously be playing. For any of you who have season tickets for the pens and see's what he goes through on a nightly basis, I'm sure you don't mind him taking the time off.

Some people are hockey fans and not just fans of their team. Those people expect to see the best players in the league at the all star game, not the best players willing to show up. If you are voted into the game, you play. The only excuse for not playing is being hurt, not being tired.

Wow. Honestly Bettman ... do you think at all ....

If the players want to rest up let them.

he's thinking about marketing the league, exactly what he's paid to do. Having players blow off one of the best marketing opportunities of the year is not good for the league. It also shows how little those players care about the fans or the league.

Understandable but if he really wanted to market the league properly he would've made sure there weren't 4 canadian players starting.

yea, im gonna have to say this is poor PR by crosby. I understand last time he was legit hurt. this is a bruise, get over it. If your healthy enough to play before and after the all star break, you should play in the game. Its not like its physically demanding or anything. Plus they are going to roll all four lines, so hes not even going to play the 19 or so minutes like he usually does. This is the one game that is 100% for the fans. it would be nice if he respected that.

You guys act like Crosby is the first guy to skip the all-star game to mend bumps and bruises. Sid isn't the one that needs to grow up, kids.

This isn't about Crosby, as much as some people want to make it look that way. It's about all of the guys bagging the game this year. Lidstrom, Datsyuk and several guys in the young stars game. The only one that I don't have an issue with is Backstrom as he played in the young stars game last year and was slated to play in it again this year.

Carey Price deserves a lot of credit for volunteering to play in the young stars game as well as the being the starter for the all star game. It seems like he "gets it".

Im wondering if this also applies to Backstrom. If a player is injured I see no problem with them taking the game off.

I somewhat understand the dislike/hatered for Crosby, he wines and has been dirty latley but for guys upset and critical about Crosby missing the game, give your head a shake and enter the real world.

You don't think Mario went to the basement on Tuesday and said

"How's the Knee?, oh it's a little sore, Let me ask you another question, do you like the $8M we put in your account every year? thought so. So why don't you do me a little favor and be ready for Tuesday night and rest of the 40 games and get us in the damn playoffs"

"One more thing, why the hell do you still live in my house?"

From interviews I have seen from Sid and articles about him, this guy gets what he means to the league and it's marketing, I bet if the Pens gave the OK he'd play.

This game is such a joke in the end, Tkachuk is an allstar.

Obviously an injured player should get the day off, the NHL just wants the standard to be an injury that forces you to miss a game. It's a pretty impartial standard.

I guess Bettman isn't a fan of Crosby's decision either...

Just saw that - I think it's absolutely ridiculous. Maybe if he wants the game to be less of a joke he should do something about the ridiculous fan balloting, and not worry about guys missing the game to rest for lingering injuries.

Is the Young Stars game being televised? Haven't seen much about it this year. In past years, it has been equally, if not more, entertaining than the All Star game.
