Upcoming tourney: how to recoup from a game

Recommended Posts

I have a weekend Tourney coming up and I just wanna get everyone's input on how to recuperate in between games. I have two, possibly three games all within an hour in between each other, it's going to be mentally and physically demanding.

When I was kid, it was french fries, pop, fast food..lol but I can't pull that off now.

-Gatorade/Powerade

-Granola Bars?

-Enery Bar/Drinks?

-Fruits (which are the best?)

All inputs are welcomed!

Powerade/Gatorade BEFORE game: Pre-hydration is key.

Bananas, kiwis, strawberries, and mixed nuts before game.

Plenty of fluids during game.

Post game hydration and fruits/nuts.

Maybe a Red Bull, maybe some creatine/nitric oxide post game.

Should be sweet to go from that.

Chocolate milk after the first game. Research has shown it to be the best recovery drink out there because it has the ideal ratio of carbs to protein.

Unfortunately, my stomach reacts negatively towards chocolate milk only, regular milk is fine. LOL

Thanks james12lucy, I'll be sure to head to the grocers this week to stock up on some of the items you've listed.

I think I'll also have a light pre-game meal that should help with the first game.

I agree with pre and rehydration. Bananas are what I feel like help the most. Just avoid going swimming at the hotel. Coach always banned us from the pool back in the day. <_<

Hydration is good, but make sure to do a few cool down laps before you get off the ice from your first game. It'll get the lactic acid out of your legs, if that stays in there you'll be hurting for the next game no matter what else you do.

But Gatorade is good, an energy bar is probalby a good idea too. Don't eat too much though, otherwise It'll come right back up.

If you have time, a cool shower isn't a bad idea either. Keeps you awake, and you feel fresher without all the sweat from last game still on your skin.

Have some pasta prior to both games (no meat sauce).

Chocolate milk would of been perfect in between both games, with a banana and a granola bar.

haha your talking about the lunar tourny right?

Pfft all we need is a big dim sum breakfast and you'll be set. There's lots of carbs and protein you last you the entire 2 days.

In all seriousness though, pre and post hydration but try not to bloat your self.

See you on the ice.

Research has shown Slimfast is better.

Giant Panda's, you?

haha f bombs are the worse when your playing. Sometimes you have to watch out for sharts. Hell if I sharted while playing, I'm still finishing the game!

Back on topic however, I find fruits and a bit of protein keeps me feeling light while playing. I don't have that groggy itis feeling as if I had loads of heavy carbs and steak.

i have some fruits, oranges, bananas and etc set aside for this weekend so i should be good to go!

pancakes with out syurp have worked well for me b4 the 1st game. when you eat between games make sure it something light. the last thing you want is to eat a full meal beweet games b/c you'll feel a giant pit in your gut that wants to come back up. drink a ton of water.

also watch the color of your piss. the darker it is the more rehydration you need. if it looks like ice tea you need to pound a ton of water right away.

Your Tony right? I'm just guessing from your last name.

I think this tourny I'll try drinking green tea all day. I'm sure there's some herbal crap that will make my hands softer, skate faster and shoot harder. I've also seen some kids bring cases of clementines to their tournaments when I've been working. Perhaps I'll do the same. I mean who doesn't like clementines? Their delicious, nutritious and recommended by Confucius!
