Avery IS back on the Rangers

Recommended Posts

http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/hockey/r...y_on_radar.html

Says Dallas has been talking to Sather about the possibility of sending Avery to Hartford, then the possibility of putting him on re-entry waivers and the Rangers picking him up for 1/2 his contract. Seems a bit far fetched but plausible, I for one would love to have him back on one hand but wouldn't want him back on the other... it's all about those bridges he burned as soon as he left. He's a real good player and can make an impact, but I don't know if it's worth all the excess baggage.

I'm not sure about this whole thing...I thought this may happen...I loved him as a Ranger now I'm not so sure I would want him back...

The Rangers got to bring him back, Voros doesn't do anything nearly as well as Avery besides keep his mouth shut, I sometimes wonder why Voros even has a roster spot anymore. Voros is bad in the defensive zone, can't help on the power play as much as Avery, and doesn't even come close to being the same headache for teams that Avery is. Kalinin has been a bust, if we could some how dump Kalinin to say Ottawa a team struggling for defense for a pick and maybe dump Voros too that would more than free up the room to take on half of Avery's salary.

kalinin has a 1 year deal and makes nowhere near as much as redden or rozsival who have been just as horrible... try and find a way to dump one of them. at this point, i'd gladly take avery back if it meant getting rid of rozsival or redden.

rangers have so many problems right now. Gomez Drury Rozival and Redden have all been busts. not one has played up to his contract. Now they cant even get the right players on their team because of the cap, which is only going to decrease next year.

When that many guys are underperforming it is time to question who you have behind the bench.

+1 Renny's system is not working. The rags have zero identity.

I've been a Rangers fan all my life. I'll stop being a Rangers fan if this happens.

If DarkStar50 did it when Park and Ratelle were traded for Espo and Vadnais, then I can too. :)

2nd. i've never cheered for any NHL team other than the rangers, so if avery comes back i might have to start watching football or something. i thought we'd washed our hands of this turd?

I think he should be banned from hockey, the guy is a punk, and an embarrament to hockey!

I wouldn't go that far, just because he had a few bad moments in his career due to his big mouth i wouldn't ban him from hockey. He could be a great addition to the team if he just focused on play hockey and left his comments for on the ice.

They need to play a more uptempo system like Boston. They have guys that can move the puck and a lot of depth up front that can skate. Right now they're trying to win close games by playing nothing but defense and scoring a couple PP goals.

he is a cancer i hope he doesn't come back

Allegedly some of the guys on the team feel the same way.

From what I understood, he was not that bad in the Ranger's dressing room.

Avery can not hurt the Rangers right now by any means, because as said, Voro's has been next to useless, and the team has not been clicking. At this rate, they are going to get into the playoffs.

I also heard on the radio that their is a type of clause where they can sign him too, that if he acts up, the Rangers(or whom ever signs him) can let him go, without owing him anything. Is there any truth to that? I was wondering.......

they have most of their cap tied up in 5 or 6 guys and not a single one of them has proven theyre worth it. sather needs to stop rewarding guys with huge contracts they dont deserve and renney needs to wake up, i question almost every decision the guy makes. i honestly do not see this team winning anything with renney as their coach

1. You heard wrong, according to some usually accurate sources

2. Yes, he could hurt the Rangers badly. Especially if other players then request trades because of his return

3. He already has a contract, Avery would have to agree to renegotiate in any new clauses and the NHLPA would probably not want him to set a precedent. All (?) NHL contracts have a "morals clause" but what he did wasn't enough to violate that clause or Dallas would have cut his ass instead of sending him for counseling.

The Rangers don't have the cap room to take him on anyway.

I agree with Chadd. In reference to laquinta's post, Avery wasn't AS BAD in the Rags locker room, because of Shanahan, but his actions/words were still quite unnecessary. He apparently respected Shanny very much, and because of this, Shanny was able to keep him in check..... to an extent. It is true that several big-name Blueshirts went to Sather and asked for either Avery to not be brought back, or for themselves to be traded.

All the information I received is by a very highly regarded and respected former NHL insider, whose name I will not mention.

On top of that, you should hear some of the things he actually says on the ice... WAY over the top.

THis is why I wonder if Avery would have been better of playing with the red wings for a few more years, under the leadership of Yzerman lidstrom chelios etc.

Not everyone is able, or willing, to follow the examples set by good leaders. No matter how much time they have

Thanks for that info. As for the stuff Avery said on the ice, Bettman was on NHL.com around the time of Avery's suspension and stated that had it been on the ice, no actions would have been taken, because lingo like that takes place the entire hockey game. Right now, I don't exactly now who those several players that would be asked to be traded are, but, there are a few that i would like to see go, or traded for younger talent, and guys that want to prove that they want to be pro hockey players......cough cough Redden!
