Framing hockey jerseys - question

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about framing a couple of my old jerseys plus an Ovechkin jersey. Is it customary to have the front of the jersey showing in the frame or the back of the jersey? I realize it's personal preference, but what is more common? Thanks!

id say if your hanging it up to show the team like if it was a whalers jersey or a north stars jersey then do front. If your doing it to show the players name such as ovechkin obviously do the back.

rjw: what area are you in? The company I work for actually frames jerseys. We have framed jerseys for some of the NY Giants and NJ Devils who come in and want thier jerseys framed.

PM me and I can help you out with any questions you might have. I can take pics of the different styles we have and give you some prices. We can even ship to you! Since I am one of the Managers, I can give you the MSH discount! ;)

In my first apartment after high school I mounted my old jerseys, I did them both together side by side, with about 1/4 overlap; home jersey on top with the front facing out, away jersey behind it with the name showing. Worked extremely well for me because of a short last name but I think it would be fine for any length really.

If you have a pair, it's definitely what I'd recommend doing.

I'd be tempted to frame it showing the back of the jersey myself. That way the player's name is visible. With a football jersey I've seen them either way. This is a framed jersey/etc that I did using a Hobby Lobby shadow box and an Ultra Mount display hanger. Even without the signature on the number there's no real need to ask what player wore that number, lol:

The Pro Bowl jersey from last year is a game-cut jersey just like they actually wore. It's long enough to be a dress! I was able to hook up with the owner of a store in WI who is the person that arranges for all of Brett's autographed items and runs his website, plus he often flew Brett back and forth to Mississippi. I sent him the jersey after contacting Brett via a private message on his site after I sourced the jersey. Favre signed it 6/22/08, and I got an email from the contact in WI telling me he'd just gotten it done for me that morning at Brett's home in MS. The standard 4" x 6" photo w/hologram sent out along with a COA when he sold the Reebok signed authentic jerseys on his site/others are selling on eBay/etc. was actually taken when he signed my game-cut jersey. I've seen it a ton of times in eBay listings. If you look closely you'll see my letter/check laying on his table top as he's signing the jersey. :)

edit:

Here is a photo I grabbed from a current eBay auction.... you can see my jersey being signed... and if you look closely you'll see the plastic bag I sent it in, along with a folded sheet with a photocopy of the #4 showing where I wanted him to sign it at and what I wanted on there for the inscription. My check is laying on top of the paper. He ended up signing all of the other jerseys with the same "9x Pro Bowl" inscription as I requested on mine. ;)

Little known fact but "too old" is John Madden. ;)

Ha ha. He needed to buy that Class A motor home capable of going into water. Guess next year he can make it to the Pro Bowl...

I've always been a Packers fan since we moved here to the Midwest when I was 8. Also a Favre fan, obviously. Made it to 2 games there this year; the opener against the Viqueens and then the Bears game. Thankfully I got to see 2 wins.

After a year like this I know what it's like to be a Bears fan or almost a Lions fan, lol. NFC North is a weak-suck division lately to say the least. We know Jared Devries of the Lions (his m-i-l babysat our little one and then was her preschool teacher) and feel for him having to play for a team like that. Their d isn't horrible but the offense... well... do they have one? Hockey-wise I've always been a Blues fan, but also liked the Flyers back in the day when they kicked ass.

My father Frames for a living and I have seen some of his work where he has framed the jersey in between 2 pieces of glass so you can see both sides of the jersey.

That's pretty neat, but I imagine most people wouldn't want a jersey hanging from the ceiling!

The Jersey is usually hung showing the back but you still have the option to see and or show the front of the jersey. Maybe this idea is a little bit much for you so I suggest you just hang your jerseys with a clothes hanger on a thumb tack up on the wall. :P

I've seen it done where one side was hinged on the wall so the jersey could be flipped. I think it was an old MLB jersey of some significant Yankee, but I really don't remember.

DIY and use broken hockey sticks. You've probably seen one or two at your local rinks memorializing a local player or coach.
