I was about to say that the pair I had of Sundin's were just 2000s. I don't remember him being in anything "top of the line" till he went CCM.

I think you're right, Mac. Here's the pair I have if anyone hasn't seen them. These are probably the heaviest skate I have ever handled.

He also had a bunch of R&D guys sit down with Leetch to try to convince him that a stiff skate was a better skates (Leetch had been wearing the same skates from college at that point). He laughed at them and told them they were crazy.

I agree with Leetch, skates can be too stiff.

They used to talk about Leetch's skates every few games or so b/c the equip. manager would have to sew more material on to keep them from falling apart and he'd end up using a roll of tape per ankle (also the fact that he had a number of pins in his ankles didn't help).

I wonder how stiff Maurice Richard's skates were  I'm surprised how well a lot of the pro's could skate in really unstiff skates. Imagine Richard in a pair of XXXX's. Fast!!!

Remember the old Nike straps that you could take on and off of your shoes? I'm pretty sure they were intended for basketball sneakers, but if you bought the XXL's they would fit over your hockey skate. They went around the heel, up under the midsole of the shoe, and velcro-d over your laces. Ya, my whole team had those in orange back in the day. We thought we were pretty cool.

I can't seem to Google any pics, but I'll keep looking. Next time I go to my parents house I'll look for some pics or the straps if I still have them.

HA, I do remember those....God i think those were worse than what i previously said......now i'm getting all nostalgic *cue "Glory Days"*

I have all models of the white editions, some of my pics are in the thread aforementioned Nike Hockey in the 90's

http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...38316&st=90

Also have them in the reverse black with white trims, been a sucker for these skates since I got my forst pair in the 90's and snapped up pairs ever since. I've converted a few to Roller too.

Yeah some say they're heavy etc, I have a pair of Nike 95s and while they're lighter I don't find it adds to my speed on the rink much, nor do I feel my Accel Elites hamper it and I'm one of the quickest on my team.

Still get kids today giving them way more attention than any of my newer top end skates, and the white Missions look shit in comparison.

To each their own however, I'm pretty biased as these old Nikes are still my fave skates of old time while many hate them with a passion :)

And those one's someone linked on eBay...way over priced for the crap condition they're in - hold off they do pop on eBay from time to time just be patient, and the condition/price will be a lot better - I wouldn't even entertain those ones linked, and I usually snap up any I see.

Oh and the one's Gretzky had were indeed white with a royal blue trim.
