Torspo Surge 221

Recommended Posts

Can someone who owns a pair on MSH please help me with Torspo sizing.

I am getting conflicting information in my searches.

Some sites say size as shoe size.

Others say 1/2 to 1 size down.

I wear a size 9 shoe, 8 Kor Shift 1, 8 Easton, 7.5 Graf and RBK.

Please help...What is my size in Torspo as I can not try them on before I buy.

Thanks

I have KOR Shift 1's for ice and converted Torspo 221's for roller. In my experience the boots fit the same after a good bake. If your size 8 KORs fit well then you should also get size 8 Torspo 221's.

This is what happens when people don't or can't get to a LHS to physically try them on. All the best guesses in the world will still leave you a margin of error at least at half size up or down.

Unfortunately (at least in PA) I have never seen any LHS that carries torspo skates. In fact I have never seen a torspo skate in person in my life.

Edit: You could always ask the place you are ordering from if you can order both and just ship back the one that dosnt fit. Kind of a pain but its the only way you can really try both without a shop.

i've tried them on and found them to be at least one size off; ie, order 1 size smaller than your shoe size. I agree with the recommendation to order 2 different sized pair and return the ones that don't fit

Here's a comparison, Ive worn these skates in the last 2 years

Mission 9D

Easton 8.5D

Torspo 9D

The Torspos will feel too small when you try them on, but with a good baking your heel will sink back quite a bit. Good heel lock... if you can get the 221 go for it.

I agree with the statement that the Torspo's will feel too small before baking. I also believe that epstud74 has the middle of the line Torspo 100 skates from what I remember of the thread he started on those a while back...the fit of those and the 221's may not be exactly the same (it's also likely the 221's are more responsive to heat). From what I've read the 221's used the KOR Shift 1 mold and from owning both I can definitely believe that.

I also believe Spreedizzle has worn the 221 for roller and Shift 1 for ice at some point as I asked him for some advice on sizing vs the Shift 1's before I ordered my converted Torspo's. He was right on when he recommended the same size as the Shift 1's. You can PM for another opinion, but I believe he'll tell you the same thing. If the Shift 1's fit you well then just stick with that size when you order the 221's.

Thanks everyone for all your input.

Just ordered a pair of 8.5 off of e-bay for $80.

I figured for $80 ... what the heck.

I do hope they are very similar to my Shift 1's.

I'll let you know how it goes when they get in.

Thanks again.

Thats why they'd feel very different after heat molding. They'll fit very, very tight...Torspos are a nice skate, but you really never know how they'll fit until after you've molded them.

just a word of advice when you are using them (after baking). You dont have to crank up and lace them up realllllly tight. Just snug is enough as the boot is very very supportive.

Thanks for the advise and I find that the same with my Shift 1's. I do not have to lace them up very tight.

If they perform anything like my Kor's. I will be very happy. The steel on them worries me a little. Anyone have any feedback on the Pika holders and steel?

i wear a 12 in most men's shoes (nike, reebok,) and am in an 11 1/2 with the surge 221s.

HOWEVER

my brother recently bought a pair of surge 100s, and while he also wears a nike 12, his skates are 12s (as opposed to my 11 1/2)

so i would recommend trying them on, if at all possible.

the boot between the 221 and the 100 seems to be nearly identical (shape-wise, anyhow. not materials.)

the pika holder is very, very heavy, but after about a year of 2-3 skates per week, there are really no signs of wear on them (and i'm a heavy dude.)

the steel has held up well, also. i'm not a sharpen after every skate kind of guy, so maybe that makes a difference, but i probably only sharpen them every 3 weeks or so.

overall, i really do like the surge 221. i think it's an underrated skate, and the price is usually right.

I have regular width feet and high arches. I would say go a 1/2 size down. I just bought a pair of Torspo Sweet 50's size 11, while my normal shoe size is 11.5 and the fit ideal. Obviously, I cannot speak about longevity but in terms of comfort these are the most comfortable skates I've owned. I could not be happier. I've been buying $500 dollar skates for years and I only wish I knew about Torspo earlier.

Does anyone know what the US to EU size chart that torspo uses? In particular, if am a EU 41 then what is the US that torspo uses?

Thanks,

Ryan

To possibly help someone out. My dad skates in a Graf 709 in a size 9. And he fits in a size 10.5 (EU 45) Torspo. The length seems to be identical.

Hi Ryan

I don't know the whole size list that Torspo uses, but I am also in a EU 41 and that translated to a 7.5 Torspo size with my toes barely brushing the top cap once laced up. I have normal width feet, low arches, and I wear size 9 running shoes in most brands, but can range between 8.5 and 9.5 at times. I have still yet to find a skate manufacturer that claims their skates fit true to shoe size, and actually do; not that it really matters. But I had to take a bit of a plunge when ordering the Torspo to make sure the fit would be ok.

Coincidentally, same as Mission sizing, so maybe you can use Mission's size list for reference. I am currently in a 7.5 2E Mission Fuel 95XP, and just received my Torspo Surge 100's. Got them baked and molded, but not sharpened yet. Can't wait to give them a try, I am really sold on the custom fit carbon base so far, they are very comfortable just in home. For $60 brand new, you can't go wrong.
