Farrell shoulder pad Fit questions

Recommended Posts

First off im new to this site, so hi everyone.

Anyway, im looking at the farrell 600 shoulder pads. Im about 5'9" 165lbs with a 40 inch chest. Right in the middle between Farrell's Small and Med. Ill be ordering these online because I have no lhs that stocks them, but i have no idea what size to order. The customer support at my online retailer wasnt much help. Do any of yall have any experience with these? If so id love any personal Fit Reviews.

Thanks alot

ross

They tend to run fairly short, its personal preference, there wont be a big difference really just a bit, how high do you wear your pants? If you want your shoulder pads to go all the way down and cover your full stomach your better off going iwth the medium, im about an inch and 15 pounds bigger then you and im in a large, purely for length.

Im 5'9 155 with a 39 chest and I have a size small. They tend to run big, the small is not tight in any way but they are short like leafs said. Also I have the black ones which seemed to fit a little different than white. Not sure why?

I'm 6ft, 190 lbs and I wear a small. They run big. I would be swimming in a medium.

Yeah they do, the guy at my lhs thought i was foolish trying on a large first he said i just wasnt big enough but they dont fit me bad at all, i have a really long upper body and they fit me perfect for length and they dont fit me that bad either, id like them to be a bit smaller but at least i get full stomach protection this way.

There's a chart on there website. According to that chart it says I'm a large and I wear a small just fine. They don't protect the stomach at all but they fit fine around my chest and everything else.

Hi does anyone know the difference between the White Farrell H500 Shoulder pads and Black Ferrell H600 Shoulder pads? The H600 costs more and is it more protection and heavier? Thanks.

I have the black ones, theres a little more in each block but nothing really big. I dont think you could go wrong with either pair.

So, if you are a big "checker" and want protection from well, from guys protecting themselves....i.e. butt ends, etc., would you recommend the Farrells?

If not, why and what would you get? Sounds like there is very little protection around the stomach/torso area.

Thanks.

I have a pair of Farrells and I like them. But I'm in a no checking league and usually revert to the Farrells for practice. For games I tend to wear my Reeboks because of the added chest and back protection. The Farrells are certainly lightweight, but with the lighter weight, I do think that you give up a fair bit of protection. I know that guys are wearing them for full-speed, full contact hockey, but I'm not sure I would.

As for sizing, I found that they run extremely big. I wear mediums, but could have definitely went with smalls. And I'm 5'10, 190lbs and wear a 44 in a suit coat.

Do they make XS for senior? Or has anyone who's smaller ever tried on a youth XL? I'm about the same size as the OP and it seems like a small will be too big. I wear a small in all other

EDIT: I just saw on Farrell's website that youth sizing is either S-M or L-XL. Anyone tried them?

I've seen XXS and XS on a couple of websites, but I'm thinking they may just be passing off the two youth sizes off as senior XXS (youth S-M) and XS (youth L-XL).

I'm also thinking pof getting the Farrells. I play in a non check league but there is always contact, especially in front of the net where I tend to position myself. I am 5'10" 225. I'm thinking of the size large. Hopefully that will drop them down enough to cover my abs a bit. Any thoughts?

Also - I am concerened more about cross checks? How is the protection on the back? Overall protection? Such a different pad - I'm worried but it looks so comfy.

On top of the blocks are hard caps that can be removed or moved to different positions on the shoulder pads for better protection where you want it. Two on the back, two on the front, two shoulder caps and 2 on your bicep/tricep area of your arm. I've never had a problem with protection and I don't use the shoulder caps.

See if you can try a pair on - they're pretty accessible in the NY/NJ/CT area now. I'm 5'11" and 170lbs and I wear a small...they are in no way tight. If there's anything I'd like is for them to cover lower.

Cant seem to find any of the LHS stocking them so I called up the Monkey. We'll see how they feel... worst case it costs me $20 shipping to try them on.

I'll let you all know what I think when I get them.

The Monkey delivered my Farrell H600s today and sadly I will be sending them back. The fit is totally weird. I'm 5'10 225 and in ordering a large zi figured they'd be plenty big. Low and behold I was wrong. They were short in the abs as many have written and I could have lived with that. To be honest I thought that getting the large would make them long enough but I was wrong. I was really shocked though to see that the arms/bicep protection were extremely short as well. Instead of being about two inches above my elbow, they are only about two inches below the shoulder and toght as hell because the straps are short. Last... what the heck is with the shoulder caps??? They are monsterous!! I looked like a linebacker!!

I'm totally bummed and now its back to the drawing board.

I want a low profile, mobile pad with high level protection. Is that too much to ask for???

CCM - straps along the waist too small and wont fit... and I'm not THAT fat.

Easton ST16 - too short now with the new cut and again the waist straps were too short.

Reebok - shoulder caps not low profile... I look like a linebacker.

Bauer - same problem as Reebok.

AAAaaarrggghhh!!

Usually, unfortunately, the lower-profile that you go the less protection you get.

is there a big difference in youth xl and senior small? and which ones are better the white ones or black ones?

As I understand it, the black ones use a triple-density foam that is supposed to be slightly lighter. I don't know of a youth xl unless it's the same as the XS. In that case, yes, I think there's a pretty big size difference.

Most take it as, the youth xl would be an adult XS.

I have the size mediums, and wish the protective pads would have extended lower towards the stomach area. otherwise im fine with them. im not sure if i went with a large it would help, especially the pads would be a looser fit. the problem with the farrell pads where i live, is there aren't many places i could try them on, not to mention the ones that carry the product dont have much of selection of size to try on. PLUS prices vary tremendously on these pads.

BTW i have the black ones. (H600)
