Is this a fluke injury or do I need a new girdle? (Pics inside)

Recommended Posts

I have been using these pants for over a year with no previous issues. Is this just a fluke, or do I need something better?

This is the girdle I use:

I took a shot off the inside of my leg and here is the result:

The newer wrap girdles don't have much in the inner thigh because when they were laceups guys would just cut those areas out.

There's still hope if you wear a girdle - pair it up with a set of lowers from a pro pant, and keep the thigh pads in.

It's an injury I get almost once a year. Inside of the thigh, no protection there on pants or girdles. I saw Bauer coming out with a X60 jock with pads specifically in areas that are lacking in protection.

Thats exactly what I do... and I'm a shot blocking defenseman. Try to find a good pair of pro Takla or CCM two-piece style pants and use the bottom as a padded shell. I take the thigh pads out of the pocket on the girdle and get great mobility and protection. You should definitely try that arrangement if you can score some pro stock pants at a reasonable price.

No way buy a new girdle. It is an area that is just not protected no matter what you buy. All I can suggest is

1. Get out of the way of the shot.

2. Try to position yourself so that you are facing the shot legs closed and It should hit plastic and not "meat"

Its part of the game, bumps and bruises.

I get this bruise a couple times a year. I'm just getting over one on the inside of the thigh just above the knee. I wear CCM 420 Supras with plenty of protection but even when I wore CCM 1052 Pro Stocks that puck had a way of finding that one spot without padding. you don't need a new girdle. wear that bruise with pride!

I teach my kids to squeeze their legs together when standing in front of a shot, because of the lack in padding on the inner thighs of most pants. In saying that I also readily admit its not always possible with the speed of the game.

Yep, just a tender area on most pants I've seen. Close your legs when blocking a shot and you should minimise this sort of injury, but it's always going to happen randomly at some point in time.

When I saw the bruise & the girdle you have one thing came to mind: ABS plastic. You can buy 1ft squares of the stuff at a hardware store pretty cheap and it's quite easy to work with. Cut it to the same size as the thigh strap and hit with a hot air gun. Wear some gloves, and while you have the girdle on - start bending it to match the contour of your leg.

Secure it via velcro & tape around your thigh to make sure it doesn't slip. Besides a probable 'clanking' sound you'll make each stride, it should offer much more protection than you already have for less than $10.
