Bauer Flexlite 4.0 Fit

Recommended Posts

I ordered a pair of 4.0's last week, it feels like it's taking a lifetime for them to get to the shop.

I'm hoping they fit my fat ass feet. My problem area is around the toecap. My little toes get smashed to hell and my big toes start to go numb...it's the suck.

The eastons might work for you, as they are a one piece molded composite, so there is no seam at the toebox, and are pretty wide in the forefoot.

The D width and EE width for the flexlite toe cap is absolutely Huge. The vapors shifts (shifts equivalent to x:50) I got instead has also a pretty wide toe cap.

So they finally arrived. Here is my take. I wear a EE in a vapor and the Flexlite D that I ordered was about equivalent to an EE in a Vapor or supreme. Seemed like the arch was a bit high. My opinion is that the supreme line has more overall volume at the ankles.

I do not like the level of stiffness in the boot. The 4.0 feels like mush to me. I guess I'm used to my vapor xxxx's being rocks. To bad they are too small as they're going on ebay in a few weeks here.

If you like a stiff boot, do not get the 4.0's. I've never seen or felt the 4.0 pro.

I had a chance of trying them on today, and for a fact they indeed felt like mush.

So I'm guessing MUCH less stiff than the Supreme 8090s? This might be quite an adjustment for me since I'm used to having good support in the ankle....not super stiff but solid support. Anyone gone from the 8090 to this skate (not the pro model)?

My skates finally arrived yesterday.

First impression: Good looking skate, I had only seen pics previously and I was pleased with them in person as well.

Fit: Nice wide fit through the forefoot w/ alot of volume. Also wide through the toe cap. I do have some pressure where the boot meets the toe cap on my right foot, but it's nothing like the vise-like fit of my Missions. (Keep in mind I'm in a JR skate, so this may not be an issue for those considering SR sizes. I can say this is the widest JR toecap I've come across.)

Pic of the Flexlite(right) next to my Missions:

The volume in the ankles is a bit lacking, pretty tight out of the box for me. I'm sure things will loosen up a bit when I get a few skates in.

Heel is nice and snug, arch is pretty damn flat. I have to wear custom orthotics since a foot injury in April, they don't want to fit in the boot so SuperFeet are next on my shopping list.

I was going to try a quick test run in the Public Skate, but I was frightened away by the disaster that a Friday night PS is. What a freak show, I'm too old for that shit <_<

Hey guys, I've been on the search for a replacement for my 8090s and now two nights ago i took a shot to the foot and it pulled the outsole away partially at the toe would these be a viable solution for me?

Been using the Pro's fora few months now and they feel great. My only complaint is I started getting blisters on the outside part of each part of my upper ankles. I do keep the top eyelet undone so not sure if this is attributing to my problem or not. I'm going to try some superfeet and see if that helps reposition my foot.

I have the same problem in an older flexlite model, the top eyelet undone is a factor. Tye them all the way up and get use to it.

I have the 4.0 pros, and I have figured out that the skates feel a little cramped in the toebox when i wear my thicker under armour socks. I have tried some very thin dress socks lately, but seem to have some bad rubbing on my heel with a sock this thin.

I have tried the ccm oxysox and they didn't seem to give my heel problems and they were nice and thin. Only problem is they are about 25 bucks a pair. Does anyone have any other suggestions short of buying expensive socks or using moleskin on the heel?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I go back and fourth between oxy socks and Cabela's hunting liner socks. The Cabela's ones are $9.99 but they are thinner than dress socks so i am not sure those would work for you.

Quick check in about the Flexlites...

I've skated one night a week in them since I got them. Everything is great except for the arch support. The ankle padding has broken in, that slight pressure I felt in the right toecap is long gone as well. I never bothered with baking them since they fit great. Once I find the right insoles these things are going to be perfect. Very pleased with them.

Anybody know where I could try the 4.0 and pro here in Toronto?

Does the 4.0 or pro have wide midfoot?

My feet are pretty weird as my midfoot is actually wider than my forefoot so whenever I buy any footwear, my arch or outside of my feet would hurt as the laces are tighten. I have a pair of 8090 8.5 EE right now. They are a decent fit but if I skate in them for a long period of time, the bottom of my feet starts hurting. When I skate, I don't even tighten the middle 2 eyelets. No amount of Superfeet or custom orthotics help. (Actually, my midfoot would droop over the padding of the Superfeet, wider than the padding itself.)

So I tried on the 4.0 and I love the heel lock, fit of the back half of the foot and the flex of the boot. However, the front half of my foot - basically from the midfoot on up - is massively too wide, even in the D. I was wondering if anyone knew if a custom ordered 4.0 Pro would be able to be made in such a way as to keep the fit in the back half and narrow up the front half to get me a snug fit in the mid and forefoot?

That sure looks like an interesting option as I'm looking for new skates. My toes are pretty cramped up in my Graf Supra 625 and ever since i've added yellow Superfeet in them they have been a bit too tight on top too. Getting rid of the Superfeet is not an option as it has elimated back pain I was getting at every skate since I have started using Superfeet and before superfeet, I'd get blisters on my right ankle too. No more of this with the Superfeet either. So perhaps the Flexlite's would be a good option for me too.

Ive been searching for answers, and asked as well but get no response. Ive seen mixed opinions, but I need a solid answer on whether the flexlites are DEEPER than the supremes. My supremes are just a hair too shallow, and it seems like the damn lace bite bar on the tongue is actually giving me lace bite because the laces dig into it and crease it which puts massive pressure on my ankle in that small crease spot.

My supremes are also just a hair too narrow mid foot in D width. Id be able to deal with too much toe room to get a comfortable fit elsewhere. U+ is also way too shallow.

So I have 2 questions. 1) Are the Flexlites deeper fitting than Supremes?

.....................................2) Is the 4.0 (not pro) stiffness similar to a One55?

Thanks for any help.

I have a very high instep, and have worn One 95's, and now the Reebok 11k's. Both of them are right on the border of being too shallow for me. I tried the Flexlite 4.0 pros, and in my opinion it is the same, depth wise, as the One 95's. Now that being said, I seem to remember trying on the One 55's a long time ago, and they seemed more shallow than the One 95's. The forefoot width of the Flexlite is where the skate shines. It is the only skate where my foot felt like it fit width wise with no baking, or anything, and that was with a D width. As to the stiffness, the Pro is plenty stiff, it is not the rock of the One 95, but it isn't far off. I can't imagine anyone being unsatisfied with the stiffness of the Pro model.

Thanks this gives me a little ray of hope. I heard something about the One95's being slightly deeper than the One75's... is this true? If the Flexlites fit similar to a One95 then that might be just enough depth for me. Im wondering if I would have the same issue in the Flexlites that I have in my Supremes where the "high density metatarsal guard" creased under lace pressure and gives me lacebite... I guess thats caused by having too shallow a skate?

But as far as stiffness, I had stated I was asking about the regular 4.0, not pro. Looking for a comparison to a OneXX model for stiffness. :)

Not sure how I missed this 2) Is the 4.0 (not pro) stiffness, so sorry can't help there. I am not sure about the various depths of the supreme line. The only thing I can say is that in my opinion the One 95, and Flexlite depths are similar, so if you can try a One 95 the flexlites are pretty close. When I am referring to depth I am referring to the distance from the point of the heel on a 45 degree angle to the eyelets. Those distances are similar on these two skates.

Had you used EE in the supremes, and those were too narrow? What is your opinion on the claims that a flexlite D is as wide as a supreme EE? If this is the case then flexlites may be too wide for me.

In my opinion that is a pretty accurate analogy.

If you have a high instep, no Bauer skate is going to wrap your foot properly IMO THis includes the flexlite. They are more wide in the toe box area but do not offer much more in the way of depth
