Pronger & Ott NHL's dirtiest players

Scott Hartnell?

Sorry I just don't see how he is a dirty player.

Homer-ism of the year. Having seen a lot of Flyer games over the last couple years, I can assure you he is an expert at cheap shots and dirty play.

I am also a Flyer fan as well and i like Hartnell and his style of play, but he is definatly a dirty player.

I'd have put Hollweg near the top, but I guess marginal players don't really count.

I think they'd have to be IN the NHL to qualify wouldn't they?

I've always said Pronger is an over rated goon. Coming from the NHL players you really can't argue with the results. Torres has to be in there somewhere, he's like Ott & Avery.

Translation: Guys who toss cheapshots are A-ok in my book.

Jason Blake is sneaky dirty. A lot of what he does aren't the over-the-top cheapshots or punches in the pile but he's up there on the cheap player scale.

That looks about right. All the rest was extra.

The difference between Pronger and the rest of that list is that if any of the other 5 played clean they'd have a hard time staying in the NHL. If Pronger played clean he'd be a top 2 defenseman on almost every team in the league.

I think he is unique in today's NHL as a star player who plays dirty/over the line. Back in the day this was more common. Mikita before his born-again (Byng style not Jesus style) and Clarke were two players who come to mind as guys who didn't mind straying from the rule book but were also elite players.

it did not mention it in the article but were any goalies on the list? i know that goalies have some excelent opportunities to throw some cheep shots under the radar. i have taken a few myself but have always wondered if a goalie gets a bad reputation like some players do
