Fascinated by the 09 CCM U+ Pro Ice Hockey Skates

I've only been able to check them out in passing, but they were clearly very, very light. I'm intrigued.

The runner and blade is also obviously very light. I'm on the fence as to whether I'm concerned about having a blade that's a little different than everyone else. (I have yet to develop a trust with a local sharpener and end up doing a lot of maintenance on my blades by hand).

As these seem to need to be heat molded before I'd be able to tell how nicely they fit, I guess I'm left with asking for other people's impressions. Any issues that anyone has run into with these (and yes, I know they haven't been out very long)?

I currently wear Vapor XXXXs. How would the fit and sizing be in comparison?

I'm holding a pair right now. Not sure what you mean about different steel, it's the standard proformance lite CCM steel, sharpens same as regular steel, no sharpener should have a problem (unlike the Rocket runners on the 08 U+ skate).

This skate is a huge improvement over the 08 U+. The outer quarter material is new and stronger, the heel fit is tighter and more U foams were added. No rocket runners.

You'll have to try them on to check fit for sure.

I didn't try the Pro's, but I just bought a pair of the U+ 09's. They are very comfortable, and just a little bit heavier than the Pro. I tried on a Bauer XXXX as well when I was getting fitted, but they didn't have those in my size. I felt both were very comfortable, the Bauer seemed a little stiffer and a little tighter fitting. I found the CCM fit great even before having them baked. While not quite the same and the U+ Pro, I can tell you the 09 is a fantastic, comfortable skate. Hope that helps a little.

I like both models of skates. I've always found CCM skates to be one of the best fitting skates on the market for myself even before the U+ models came out. The only thing is I love the on ice feel of Bauer skates so I understand your preference for the LS2 holder. I don't know why you want to change from the XXXX's because they're a really nice, comfortable well made skate but that's your business. From what I've heard the U+ is a very comfortable fit and very responsive as well and one of the lightest models on the market now. My only concern would be the durability factor. Don't know how long they'll last under heavy use, they just haven't been out long enough. Most of the newer performance skates tend to unravel after about a year of heavy use. If your alright with that aspect I'd say go for them and have the holders done before you take them home, you might get a discount on the CCM holders because they're basicly unused.

As far as sizing I've found I personally can go down a half size comfortably in CCM skates from what I usually wear in a Bauer or an Easton skate. I wear an 8 in a Bauer and easily fit in a 7 1/2 in a CCM or Reebok skate because of the wider forefoot and toe .

I think I may end up getting these, they are over 100 dollars cheaper than one95's, plus I love the fit other than the heel lock, which the u foam is supposed to help with.

The U+ is by far the best available skate on the market today (maybe the new mission will be better)

Someone had said that for once CCM has beaten Bauer... and that's true : lining is better, the way they are crafted, weight, feeling, look, ...

One 95 (less better than the one 90 when these fit), vapor 60 is nothing much more than the 40's (which is a very skate), rbk9s look hot but for the rest the U+ is way more advanced, easton still uses their shitty holders...

But no need to go for the Pro, the model just below at 300 dollars will do just as fine for 200 dollars less. To me the old 08 and new U+09 are the only skates that really impressed me lately... CCM did a very good job on those so enjoy

I think you're the first guy on this forum that is actually excited about the ccm U+, everyone else tend to say it's crap with a whole lot of durability issues and no heellock, at least the '08 model which I think is the one under 300 now, someone correct me if I'm wrong

Buddy there is no new Mission skate because Mission Ice has bit the dust sadly. Unless you are talking about the NME

I think you are a very Biased user when talkng about skates probably used CCM your whole life or something.

Your statements seems totally unqualified.

It was probably too early to expect much firsthand experience with the 09 release. Speaking with the guys at the LHS, it seems that the 08 model definitely had some issues, particularly with the holder/steel. They were hopeful that CCM worked the bugs out for 09. I guess we'll have to wait and see. They most certainly did seem to build a very, very light skate.

What's the fundamental difference between the Pro model and the standard one? It seems like a big jump in price. Is it theoretically worth it?

I'm gonna look at the U+ when I get new skates this fall. I haven't had CCM's since I was 11, but I remember, they fit really well.

I don't think I'll get the U+ pro though. The 09 or 07 probably.

If not Ill go with the One55 or X40's.

nope ccm has made a lot of mistakes ... the edge series, the externo,... lately the vector serie was ok.. but here with the U+ they really pull out something that kicks ass!

And that didn't happen since the first 952 kevlar and first 1052(with the 1st ccm carbon outsole)...they are light, responsive, well crafted, confortable.

Bauer is sleeping if you take some XXX and now the X60 on a blind test you won't see the differences... of course they adressed some stuff there and there but in the end they are still selling the same thing... we shouldn't blame them though cause the skate is good so why change it.

If you look at the supreme series (the "classical supreme fit" that was still on the 8090 and the supreme75 has dissappeared). The one95 is not as extreme as the one90 was...it's god damn heavy (especially with the liner inside that seems to absorb all the sweat from your feet) it has nothing to do anymore with the original ONE concept super light/super stiff/extremly tight fit..

Of course all the top of the line skates are good if you don't look at the price.

But ccm with the U+ series, especially with their 300dollars skate (U+09/V08, even more if you take in account that they move the "U+ feature" to the complete line) pulled out something very very attractive ! And to me they definitly beat Bauer this year...

The one95 si a fully thermoformable skate and I guess 70% of NHL players don't know what they're doing when it comes to Bauer. And on a personal note, the U+ is pigface ugly.

+1 for that. there is a reason that bauer has 70% + of the nhl in their skates, they dont need to make drastic changes like ccm does almost every year. nothing against ccm, but you can always expect a great product out of bauer year in and year out.

So your saying there was no issues with the One90 and the XXXX the Pros hated because of the Stiffness??

Bauer makes good Producuts but I have the New U Plus and its a MUCH better skate than last year.

I like the X60 as well but the U-Plus Pro does fit me better.

Have worn all makes and brands and mainly worn CCM. I have to say the X60 is the best Bauer thats been out in a while!

I have had Grafs(1 pair soon to be 2), Bauers (2 pairs), CCMs (4 pairs) I like the Tacks CCMS I had but the Externos were definatly the wrong pair of skates for me, they were my 4th pair of skates and last pair of CCMS. By far the best skates I have had have been Grafs but then some people would say they are terrible, but it really is all Personal preference and fit.

It really just pisses me off when people like Vathsdrop say that one skate is straight up better then another though.

I believe that right now the biggest name in hockey, at least when it comes to skates, is Bauer, of course it all depends on fit, but when you compare it with CCM, Bauer has 3 line of skates that fit diff, all with no issues and CCM has one line full of problems, no heel lock, liner falling apart, crappy durability etc. my 2 cents

These problems were fixed with the new U+ released this year FYI

I heard that, but don't you think is a little too late for a brand like CCM to adress some issues after a year

Well Bauer never really responded to their LSP holders cracking on the ONE90 and breaking everywhere until two years later with the release of the ONE95 and going back to the regular LS holders...
