Wax lace question

Recommended Posts

I always thought the advangate to wax laces was that they didn't loosen up like non waxed laces do. But, can you also get your skates tighter to begin with with wax laces, as opposed to non wax laces?

I would say yes because they tend to stay in place much better than the non wax. What I mean, you always lose "tightness" on the lace when you go up a hole, with wax laces you loose less so it's easier to get them tighter all around not just at the last holes. Hope this helps. Cheers

for wax laces, i had one too. it holds up my skates tight. but if you notice, there're some regular laces that can hold up tight pretty good too. as i pick ccm regular lace, it doing a great job.

The exact opposite for me, waxed laces hurt my hands, non waxed do not. I find it harder to tie wax laces but they do stay tighter. I haven't used them in 4 years ( I was 12 and pretty weak) but I could never get wax laces tight enough. I find neither tend to change my skating ability.

I used waxed for a long time until recently I switched to non-waxed. Much better, doesn't hurt my hands and I don't mind the slightly looser fit. They also last longer for me than waxed laces did.

Hi Guys,

i prefer the waxed ones because they stay tighter and i think they´re a bit stronger and longer lasting.

P.S. Can anybodyy tell me how wide is 11/2" hockey tape in cm? I know that 1" is 2.54 cm but how much is 11/2"?

Thanks

Bye

I always replace my original non-waxed laces I get with new skates with waxed laces. I've found waxed laces keep my skates tight the whole game and just feel better because I like to wear my skates tight. With non-waxed laces I'm retightening up to twice during a game. Personal preference. Also like the yellow ones. Also a personal preference.

I also prefer waxed laces but am a bit particular as I will only use Graf waxed laces. I am not sure why I do this? I tried a few other waxed laces and they didn't hold up like the Graf's. I don't even skate on Grafs but like the laces

I used waxed before switching to Gorilla laces based on Chadd's recommendation. They hold even tighter and don't wear down.

The Graf laces are made by TexStyle, just in case you want Graf laces and they only have TexStyle, you'll know you're getting the same thing :P

I have been searching for this information for a while. i love graf laces, but the store near me has recently decided not to stock white ones, leaving me with yellow or black. I can deal with yellow typically, but since im a ref i prefer white whenever possible.

I've always wondered if those Gorilla laces were good. I might try them next time I need new laces.

I prefer the Graf waxed as well, and some of the LHS around here stopped carrying them in favor of Infinity. One LHS said they were made by the same company as Graf, but in my experience with them, they haven't held up anywhere near as well as the Graf ones have.

Hi,

there are also some different kinds of waxed laces. I´ve had both much wax and not much wax. I prefer the more waxed ones cause they can be more tighter than the other ones. Maybe the less waxed ones are better for your hands?

P.S. Sorry for the dumb 11/2" inches question but in germany it´s usual to put a space between 1 and 1/2 =

1 1/2". That was my mistake. I just wasn´t able to get it. But THANKS

I've never cut myself on waxed or unwaxed laces, although the Gorillas have given me a little burn a couple times (sharp edges).
