Farrell Shoulder Pads - Toronto

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about buying/checking out the Farrell shoulder pads. Where can I find them in the Toronto area? Thanks in advance.

Good idea to try them on first. I have them, 6 ft, 190 lbs, lift wieghts so I'm not a small guy by any means but I wear a small. I'd get the black one's if you can.

I don't know if they still have them, but I saw them at Just Hockey on Don Mills Rd last year.

Yes, they used to carry them. I spoke to a guy there today. He sited a few reasons as to why they no longer carry them. It doesn't appear like you can get these in the Toronto area. Who knows I might have to order them from the USA

Do they really fit that big that you would wear a small? Judging by your profile - 6ft, 190 lbs and some shoulders ( you lift weights) I thought you would wear a medium. If you are wearing a small - what does a guy with a slender build wear XS?? If I have to order these I am a little confused as to what to order. I am 6ft and weigh 200lbs.

I'm 5'10" 190 pounds, and I went with the small based on feedback from Tikkanen and others that they run big, and I'm glad I did They're pretty short, but I guess that's just their cut - I wouldn't want them to be any bigger around.

Black Ice,

Did you call the store in Pickering on the Farrell website?

Wow, im 5'10 and 190 too, not a real big guy and im in a large, there a bit big for me but im going to have them hemmed in under the arms and brought in around me tighter, besides that there still a bit short however.

From what I've read from others and my own experience I think they run short but wide. I don't mind the shortness, I don't really need something covering my stomach with my 6 pack and very strong layer of fat protecting them from damage. If they were any wider I wouldn't be able to wear them though. When I play I don't even notice them since they move with you but I'm very glad I got the small. I'm probably going to buy a black pair and put the white one's on Ebay.

Since the OP is in Toronto he could just go to the Hockey Giant outlet in Scarborough - if they carry them on hockeygiant.ca they should at least be in the warehouse there. Here's the location and hours.

Thanks for posting. However, Hockey Giant has them for $159.99. I am wondering if they are worth it? That's a lot of $$$ for shoulder pads. I'll have to go and try them on and make a decision.

This can't be all that helpful BUT Vaughan Ice Plex's pro shop USED to carry Farell equipment back when I used to play shinny there on my P.A days. Worth a shot.

I still can't find these in Toronto. Help!

The only serious shop here in Texas has been promising me these would be in next week for about 3 months now.

The newer RBK 10K pads are very light, very mobile, and offer decent protection. I looked at some older Jofa stuff but could not find them in the right size no matter how hard I looked and scoured eBay too. I nosed around about the Farrell pads and most said they were okay or so-so. Thus I felt that since RBK bought Jofa and continues to blend their designs into the RBK product lineup it was a better choice. I'd urge anyone looking for a lightweight but protective shoulder pad setup to check out the 10K if possible. Just my .02 on this...

I picked up the new reebok 8k shoulder. IMHO the 8k is lighter, more comfortable & offers better protection than the farrell. the holes in the 8k also provide excellent breathability. mobility is great but probably not as great as the farrell.

I owned the 8ks, they didnt have anything on the farrells in comfort or protection. They were longer though, i liked that. Have you wore farrells? There amazing

i'm talking about the new reebok 8k kinetic shoulder pads just released. yes just tried on a pair of farrells. didn't like the way the shoulder caps feel and the possibility of a stick getting pass the compression block on the farrells. also i'd be worry of a hit in the stomach area the way the farrells ride much higher. they are definitely unique but $179 is expensive.

Oh, i was talking about the old jdp ones. Never tried or even really got a good look at the new 8ks but people get this assumption you can get a stick between the compression blocks, you cant. It might look like that but i have yet to, i had a friend poke at me and you cant. They ride a bit high but i have really high up pants so it works, a lot of the pro pants ive worn were really high up so that would explain it probably since they were designed for pros. They have unbelievable protection really considering how light they are. They have better protection then my old 8k's or protacks and cover a lot more areas. The mobility is also a great feature. At $179 there pretty competitively priced with the other high end stuff though really, I dont mind paying it because the protection is really important to me and where i live i picked them up for $30 less then that. There on hockey monkey for $139.

i can see they have great mobility with the block design, but does the blocks allow cool air to circulate also. have you been hit with the puck and how does it feel with the blocks?
