Giving lifts to non-showerers

Recommended Posts

So my problem is that in the off-season I take me and my buddy to the rink for scrimmages, thing is though he doesn't shower at the rink. Now aside from the stigma this causes with some shower purists it doesn't bother me in the slightest, my gripe is that when I drop him off back at his place I have a big wet ass shape soaked into my passenger seat.

So my question is, am I out of line to demand this SOB take a shower at the rink if he wants a ride back with me?

If he's leaving giant sweat marks in your car, I wouldn't think it's out of line at all.

At least make him bring a towel to sit on like others have said.

Dry clothes? I sweat like crazy but I don't soak into my seats after games with dry clothes.

Me too, I don't know what the deal is here. How could you wear the clothes you skated in out of the rink? I would be walking around in a spandex outfit...

I don't shower at the rink, it's used too much and I'm not a fan of public showers. That said, I skate with no clothes (Jock shorts with no undies, skate socks not white, no shirt or a white tee that gets taken off) on so a quick towel run and some deodorant is more than enough to get home and keep the seat dry.

Maybe look into the cost of having the passenger seat professionally cleaned. Then, get back to him with that price and suggest he choose another method of sitting in your car.

I think I've played in only one league where they had a shower at the rink that actually worked and I doubt that anyone would want to use that shower. Of course I've played pretty much roller only so that might be part of it.

Personally - I would let it go once or twice, but if it's a regular thing, I would insist on the shower.

Plastic shower slides cancel out the nastiness of most showers.

Also - if your rink's showers are that nasty...complain to management.

Maybe it's not sweat? I don't shower after hockey either, I'd rather not deal with the bacteria and fungus found in those caverns and I'm not a fan of athlete's foot. But I've never left a wet seat after getting out of my car. My forehead may perspire a little but that's about it. Maybe he sharted?

Your buddy needs to shower or sit on a garbage bag/towel combo. I had the same problem with a friend of mine, and now the seat and seatbelt smell like very well used hockey equipment... honestly febreezing it once a week barely puts a dent in it.

I don't get why anyone would rather travel home without getting showered for starters. Believe me i've showered in some dark nasty showers, but with some sandals nothing is too bad. I'd much rather brave it than travel home all sweaty and stinky. So my $0.02 would be to tell your bud to get a showered

What I dont understand is how someone not showering can make a seat wet and permanently stink up a car. I make no judgements on showering, or not showering, as it is personal preference. But if you towel off and put on dry clothes, and use deordorant, there really shouldnt be a problem. I have broken my nose at least 3 times and cant smell all that well, but my wife has the most acute sense of smell, and after 1-1/2 years she has not complained once. I do think that the state of ones equipment can matter as well....if your equipment stinks, so will you.

I would try the towel first. Just have one there for him and ask him to lay it out on the seat when he gets in if hes not going to shower. Don't have to be a jerk about it obviously...but I would rather offend a friend then ruin an expensive seat.
