What gear do you see most of in beer league?

Recommended Posts

After pickup games I've been hanging out at the rink just checking out the other games going on. It seems on all three sheets, there seems to be a common theme amongst the 30-40 yr old crowd.

CCM HT2 helmets

Old Cooper Helmets with Catseye cage

Graf skates (Mainly 502s, 705s and 735s)

CCM Pro Tacks/852s/652s

Bauer 7000s

Cooperall type pants or sweatpants with laces wrapped around shins

Gloves-I couldnt see much of a trend there...A myriad of glove types

Lots of top of the line sticks though

It seems a lot of these guys go with the skates that tend to last 5-10 years rather than getting a new pair every 2 yrs or so. It seems as if the Vapor XXs are more well represented than the XXX or XXXX

No..I rarely see newer CCM/RBK skates with the older guys but a ton of old Bauer 6000s/7000s and Grafs.. One team had at least 8 guys in Graf tonight. Definitely a popular skate at the Bloomington Ice Garden among beer leaguers.

I see a good number of Graf skates as well. Very rarely is there a pair of Eastons. One guy just gave up on his Daousts and got XXVs.

I'm seeing a good number of SMU sticks as well.

There were a fair number of XXXX sticks out there too..Probably due to the fact that the local HG is selling them off for $99..

I rarely see Easton skates unless they're being worn by 15-20 yr olds

I played with a guy who had a couple original Easton Stealth sticks.

Hmm I've also seen a lot of old guys with rusty cages or those bubble sized half cage half visor lol.

Any in the cateye cage?

The rink where I am doesn't allow them in leagues. Occasionally somebody gets on during a rental though.

I see a lot of the cateye cages with the 40 and over crowd.

I even saw a guy rocking the old Cooper gloves w/the armadillo thumb in the old North Stars colors.

I live out in the middle of nowhere in Northern Maine. No LHS for 3 hours (in the states). On the US side, I see a lot of whatever sticks are on sale at perani's/monkey/giant... or a lot of price point easton sticks. When I cross the border, I see a lot of guys still using shafts and wooden blades. Lots of older shafts like Ultra Lites and broken/converted OPS.

Tons of Bauer skates, especially 70/75's and XXV's

Lots of Stealths from closeouts

Usually lower end Vapor and Easton sticks

Tons of 5030's and 7000's

Don't see many RBK or CCM skates

Don't see many Warriors or One90/95 sticks

Not many RBK or Easton helmets

Not many visors either

And of course our ringer who's put up 40 goals the last couple years is still using a 3-year-old Easton Octane with the original wood blade.

Decent mix of CCM and Bauer skates (lots of old models), some Mission skates (again old mods), and a few Easton skates(low end). Not alot of Graf.

About even #'s of Bauer, Easton, and Mission low end OPS. Not many CCM/Warrior. Some UL and SW woodies.

Mostly Bauer and Mission/Itech helmets with the occasional Cooper/HT2 around. One guy had the old Petr Klima/Arturs Irbe Jofa bucket on.

Gloves are a mix. you see everything out there.

Heh...junk

Most people in leagues in central NY don't give a shit about their gear...it's a crying shame. There are some few notable exceptions...but not many

Ditto for here as well..w/the exception of the younger players... I've seen some pretty sweet gear with the guys fresh out of beginner schools..We're talking X60s, S17s and mirror visors..whereas the older, more experienced players could give a shit. I suppose if you have kids to pay for, college educations to fund and so on, you're less likely to buy new gear on a regular basis. The opposite seems to go for goalies though..I know a couple goalies who get new gear every season..that being new gear for fall, winter and summer leagues.

I've never seen anyone in an X-ray helmet ever..with the exception of Charlotte, NC

I saw quite a few visors last night...It seems as if you'll get 3-4 guys who wont wear any facial protection and the rest in visors or Catseye cages

I'm not sure a lot of 40 yr olds grew up playing with full cages

In my few years of beer league hockey I have noticed lots of pants that are beat to hell, old-ass shin pads with broken kneecaps and gloves with barely any palms left.

This is my first league in Milwaukee, being that it's summer there are lots of kids from organized teams with nice gear right now.
