What gear do you see most of in beer league?

Recommended Posts

Beer league players are not gear whores for sure and usually only change equipment when the duct tape no longer holds. They buy cheap, they buy closeout, and they hate to replace the old stuff. In fact, the only time they really talk about their equipment is when someone comments about how old their crap is. They are proud of that. They NEVER come in bragging or showing off any piece of new gear, in fact, gear is rarely talked about in the locker room. See, growing up, we were more concerned about playing the game than trying to look cool in flashy new gear. The guys I skate with use a mix of every brand and model, no favorites, more importantly, they are just happy their wife let them get something.

Heh, that's suprisingly accurate in the groups/teams I've been playing with. Taped together shoulders, old bauer/ccm stuff dominates, and I have yet to see a single piece of warrior branded equipment ever enter the locker room.

been there, done that, found it depressing & refused to do it any longer :)

back on topic: I think it depends on a hockey market - in Vancouver area I personally see a lot of new/flashy gear all over the place regardless of venue/player's age.

Us old farts hate the new skate design. IMHO they are too stiff in all the wrong places to utilize a proper stride and never will fully conform to your feet. (MLX might be the exception but I've yet to see a pair of those). The Grafs are as close to our old Bauer 100's, CCM Ultra Tacks, and Daoust 501's as we can get these days. As for the rest of the equipment. we are not and never were slaves to fashion and we looked at protection, longevity and performance before looks. Our pads were white plastic and sweat stained white\grey cloth over the padding. Didn't matter how they looked cuz the jersey covered 'em (until we dropped the gloves anyway).

Sticks: Mid-Range Easton and Bauer one piece composites

Skates: 75% of the guys seem to wear either Vapor line skates or CCM's. Not many RBK or Easton.

Helmets: Mostly Bauer helmets

Gloves, Pants and anything else I dont really pay attention to.
