tape 2 tape training aid

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I want to buy a piece of synthetic shooting ice, so like a skill pad. Wanted to no if spending all that extra money on a a tape 2 tape skill pad is really worth it? Ive seen alot of kids on youtube just put a bungy cored at the end of the board. Dont no how they realy compere for onetimers and stuff like that.

So if any one has used a tape 2 tape or a normal skill pad, please share.

been discussed multiple times (I know because I asked the same question in the past :)) - just search

as far as I recall the consensus was - not worth it, home made training pads (with or without the receiving module) as just as good & are MUCH cheaper.

You can make a homemade one thats just as good, don't bother buying one, you'll save so much money.

I'll try to get a pic up for you guys before the mini 4th of July vacation trip. Basically, welded a triangle out of fencing posts and stretched bungee cords on one side of it. Design is not prefect by any means but works without a hitch.

i got some thick plexiglass pledged it down nicely works like a charm. and one end i have a bungee cord ( the straps that you would hold down ladders down on a truck or such) and it works just the same way as tape2tape.

I think you are better off making your own practice setup.

I got a sheet of HDPE from a local Tap Plastics store to use as a practice pad. It was ~70 bucks for 1/8th inch 8'x4' sheet. I have the sheet up next to the step leading down into my backyard, and rebound passes off of that using a bouncy ProPuck. I imagine a few cinder blocks would work as a pass returner too.

check out youtube, there are many many versions of it, all working pretty well.

I actually made on, well, assembled one. My office was doing a major renovation last year and were getting rid of some of those plastic pads that your office chairs roll on instead of the carpet... thinking back, I should have taken the huge whiteboard in the meeting room instead.

Anyway, I place three of these plastic sheets together, and at one end secured a bungee cord... sprayed on some silicone spray, and it works well...

personally i think 12 is too young to workup...coz your still growing...but if you really have to i'd stick with light weights

The important things to stay away from at such a young age are the olympic lifts, squats & cleans etc. otherwise he would be fine with anything else, but just like i said before, there's no need to lift heavy weights, maybe you should think about the plyometric workouts instead, they help you get faster on your feet and improve your conditioning

my mom talked to someone from Tape2tape and it is made out of HDPE which can be bought from a plastic supply store. We got a 4' by 8' for 50 bucks. It works great and i haven't had to use pledge at all.

Alright, so I got one of those adjustable bungee cords and a couple clamps to try and get this to work. I have a shooting range nearby that has a few plastic boards so I don't want anything permanent.

The first time I tried it, it seemed to work okay, but would flip pucks at any speed high enough to get the pucks back to me. Then the clamps starting flying off. Then pucks were bouncing over it. Then I tried raising the bungee cord but the pucks were sliding under.

Any ideas from those who've made them before?

I tried a pair of 10 pound dumbbells and that seemed to work pretty well, so now I just have to figure out a way to raise it up in the air maybe 1/8-1/2" or so. On the thinner plastic piece it bowed slightly and the puck would bounce around in the middle but worked well on the sides. Got some work to do.

Maybe you could use thick elastic exercise bands instead of bungie cords?

Finally got my piece of HDPE in and I was wondering what the general consensus is to simulate the bands on tape-2-tape.

I have access to free Physical Therapy bands or ribbons or whatever you want to call them.

Any other idea?

I would get two dowels or pvc pipes at least an inch or two thick and screw them into the hdpe. Get deck screws that are significantly longer than your ice and put them through the hdpe first and then into the dowels/tubes. You can then put the band over the dowels/tubes and voila! Make sure the band is tense
