what helmet to buy?

Recommended Posts

I had a rbk 8k- liked it enough was not blown away by the comfort. Left it behind and its lost forever

Need to buy a new top of the line

What do people recommend??

I was looking at:

nike/bauer 9500

ccm vector

easton s17

cascade

also I will be wearing with a cage- any cage suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I have both a RBK 8k and a Vector08... the V08 is very comfortable, and if you can find a Mission Intake in your size they are extremely comfortable as well.

Get what fits you best. I hate the look of the 9500, cascade and the s17, top 3 ugliest helmets around, however the protection is also great. I have a ccm vector, its very comfortable, looks good and has good vents, a ccm 480 cage will fit on which is a great cage looks and durability wise. I would recommend that, however check out a 4500/5500 too, the bauer/nike ones will probably go down in price to clear them out. Again, fit a 480 on that (it fits, i have a large 480 on a large 5500 and a large 480 on a large ccm vector).

Thanks the issue is my LHS is very very limited so I cant try much on-

I am reduced to reviews and ordering online

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/bauer-hockey-helmet-4500.html

I'd go with that, if you want a little more protection you could go with :

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/nbh-hh5500.html

I woudlnt get a truvision cage though, there awful, i had one a while back it rusted in 3 months, you might say well do you look after your stuff but i actually do. None of my 480's rusted.

I ordered a large white, looks great on a black helmet and they send you one of the new ccm ones, same cage but with the new logo and different nicer chin cup. Cant go wrong.

thanks for your input

Yeah not caring that much about more protection as it is roller- want comfort, lightweight and breathability

Thx

Bummer you don't have a good selection at your LHS...I have three helmets (CCM Vector 10, Bauer 4000 & a Bauer 5000). I like the CCM V10 best due to it's ventilation and comfort. I prefer white cages for visability, and I'm currently using a Itech Phantom on my V10. It's white on the inside, but looks black from the outside. It's a bit heavy, but does the job. Good luck w/ the purchase.

Completely up to you. Normally with the ball I don't use any tape but it's not like it hurts anything.

I'd go with the 4500 then, its cheap, pretty looking and super comfortable, the v10 isnt a bad option either but its a bit more costly for not really a better helmet, a little but its not a necessity in roller, a vn liner is the most comfortable and more then half the nhl wear them, cant go wrong.

Oh by the way syko, if i were you id just put a strip of tape along the bottom of the blade (normal hockey tape), then tape the blade as you would in sock tape, i find it works great for floor hockey, it slides nice and doesnt wear that much. Its easy to just rip off too. I would suggest using tape though

Thx for all the feedback and help

Ok I narrowed it down to the bauer/nike 4500 or the bauer 5100- anyone have a strong feeling either way or know the major difference?

Thx in advance

Neither one of those fits remotely like the 8k that you said fit you so well.

Actually never mentioned that it fits me so well (RBk)

Any suggestions between the 2?

Thx

Pretty similar helmets in terms of fit and construction. You can probably swing a better deal on a 4500 if you're not in love with the looks of the 5100.
