Spray on Grip?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever tried any of those grip sprays? I remember our QB in high school used to spray them on the footballs before the games and was thinking about trying it on a hockey stick.

The reason I am asking is because I have used stick'um sticks for a while and love how they feel. However, HG is offering the XXXX stick w/o grip for only $100 right now (stick'um version is $130), I've been using the XXXX Stick'Um since it came out so I am partial to the stick, and the grip. I don't mind spending the extra $10 upgrade for the stick'um version, but $30 seems a little steep.

So does anyone know of anything to spray on the non grip version to make it like the stick'um? Or do you guys think I should just buy the non grip version and use it as my third back up?

Thanks for the help.

i tried some spray on adhesive and it felt really sticky in my hands but i didn't notice it on the ice with gloves. what i do is rub the sticky side of tape up and down the shaft. and it works for me. i do it with white tape not black to try to keep the wear on my palms down a little. or you could just candy cane tape the shaft

Maybe something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Stickum-Spra...ref=pd_sim_sg_3

I'm not really sure what exactly it sprays out, but... maybe it would help.

It's even called stickum ;)

I have used that stuff for softball. It does improve your grip but it also tears up batting gloves pretty quickly so i imagine it would do the same to hockey glove palms

3m super 77 spray adhesive

apply it in a nice even coat

it gets a little gooey when you are playing but it does add a good amount of grip. plus it comes off with goo gone.

that's freak'n fabric glue, we use it for seat covers and trim at work! does it not glue your gloves together? how's the goo gone as far as wear and tear on your palms? might have to try since it's free from work!

yes it is fabric glue. if you spray it nice and evenly you get a slightly textured finish with a good amount of tack to it. It is rather sticky and gooey for about a day or so but after that it cure's up pretty nicely and works fairly well. i used it when i was using some cheap old gloves and didnt care about the palms, but when I got my r8 lites I stripped it off with goo gone and it came off with some gentle rubbing with a towel. My stick is nice and shiny now and there isnt a trace of the grip. I would recommend it if you are interested in experimenting but I cant attest to the affect it has on palms since the ones i was using were fairly tattered anyway. It didnt seem to have too much of a negative effect but i just wasnt willing to risk it on my new gloves.

Grip N Guard Tool Spray. Exactly the same feel as "tacky" grips- (is that even necessary anymore, as the GOOD "milky" grips are nothing but a thing of the past?)

Get the clear, and give two coates.

I have used it. Pretty sticky but if you just mist the stick with a light spray (it's a pump bottle) it yields good grip. Needs to be re-applied every couple of games and, as an added bonus, it smells purty.

I had a friend who tried making his own polar fibre grip, he applied two coats of black spray paint, and while its drying lightly dust it with sand. Once its dried with the sand on it, apply one more coat of spray paint.

It didn't hold very well, but for at least 2 weeks the grip deffinitely felt like polar fibre.

I've used this stuff,Usually one coat is pretty good, pending on how much grip you want,if you want it tackier, then a couple even coats works well. And not that expensive. Comes in many color's,Even Clear which is what I used. Doesn't wreck your gloves either.

Spray on Grip coating !

I'll vouch for the ZT Edge. I just put some on my stick yesterday and it seems to have dried pretty nicely overnight. A few sprays and it seems pretty grippy. I'll get to try it out Wednesday night so I'll post a follow up after that.
