Opinion on Girdles?

Recommended Posts

I haven't tried that girdle, but made the switch to a girdle about 2 years ago with the One90. I play non-contact beer league, so these are a great fit/mobility, just without as much protection as normal pants.

I have never been able to find a pair of pants that I felt totally comfortable in . Switched to a One95 girdle and the comfort level is great. Easy to move, no binding and as much protection as I need for my league.

One95 girdle felt great as far as the movement goes, but I was constantly discovering areas that were not covered. Not major areas, but welts and bruises were much more common.

I haven't tried it,but my store carries the Tackla girdle and customers have told me it's much more protective without sacrificing movement.

The Vapor XXXX Adaptable Core Pad ( http://www.icewarehouse.com/descpage.html?PCODE=NB4AC ) is by far the best girdle out there in my opinion. I used to skate in the ONE90 but as the post above said, protection in that thing pretty much sucks. It is super mobile and probably the most lightweight/comfortable, but if you take a good shot you'll be feeling it for a while. Plus it doesn't feel too good when you hit the ice.

The XXXX ACP has awesome protection and is still extremely mobile and comfortable. I've taken plenty of shots off it and brushed them right off. It is essentially the protection and technology of the Vapor XXXX Pants, but in girdle form.

as others commented One95 girdle is very mobile, breathes well & is light as feather

protection isn't great, but seems to be enough for beer leagues.

I looked at XXXX girdle, but it really is like a pant with all the associated cons weight/mobility wise...

It may not be as light as the other girdles, but it makes up for that in protection. After skating in it for over a year after coming from pants then the ONE90 girdle, I think it is pretty much just as mobile as any other girdle. I guess it's all PP though.

It seems like the consensus from most is that if all your looking for is mobility and lightness then go with the ONE95 or something similar. But if you need any type of protection then look at the XXXX ACP or the 9K (pretty much a girdle but sold more as a pant.)

I had this girdle back in high school, I think it was called the MBP8. The kidney pads came up a little high for me, but they were probably the lightest, most comfortable pants I've had. There were quite a few places with minimal protection though, but I guess that's the trade off. I wouldn't wear it for competitive hockey with hitting again, but for rec/beer league it's great.

That's just my opinion though, I think a couple NHLer's use girdles nowadays.

ya I play in a no check league so protection isn't a huge issue. Does it matter what shell I get?

Not as long as you don't buy a padded shell off e-bay or something. Those are lowers for two piece pants, not made to go over girdles. You should also be careful, some girdles are made to go over pants instead of girdles so you can change the colors.

But it does not matter as long as it's a girdle shell.

just as long as comfort doesn't matter as well, since newer shells (like Bauer's Supreme 09 model) are much better vented - in fact the entire rear panel is a mesh - feels very nice!

I would go with the NBH VaporLite Shell ( http://www.icewarehouse.com/descpage.html?PCODE=NBVS ). That's the one I have for my ONE90 girdle. Another option is the NBH Vapor Shell ( http://www.icewarehouse.com/descpage.html?PCODE=NBVS8 ). I use that one with my XXXX ACP. The Vapor is a little looser fitting and roomier so it works better for the XXXX ACP. The VaporLite fits a little more snug which works well with the ONE90/95 girdle since it is more low profile. The VaporLite works for both girdles though, just a little tighter on the ACP.

If you're getting the girdle from Ice Warehouse, they have the shells too; both are $38.95. I've had both of mine for a good while now and they are still in great shape.

I have a Nike Quest shell, looks identical to the NBH Vapor. Very durable. I've gotten about 5 years of use from it, ice hockey and roller hockey on sport court. Not a single rip, tear, discoloration, etc.

My one95 pants on the other <_< hand

Love the girdle.

When Cooper first introduced the girdle and they became all the rage, i was resistant to change. When guys were starting to switch back to pants I borrowed a friends Cooperall Pro model to give it a try on a whim. I haven't worn pants since.

I prefer the One90, One95, CCM wrap on design over the Easton straight girdle. I prefer putting my pants on after my skates. Just a comfort/habit thing.
