My SE16 broke. I'm convinced that it was caused by being heated and cooled in the car all summer.

The stick did not last long. In fact it's the fastest I have ever broken a stick < 3 months playing 1-2 time a week.

Thoughts?

Composite sticks break. Their is a label on almost all of them saying do not store in a heated place.

And if it's from heating and cooling in your car it is somewhat your fault.

Hot summer days screw up the sticks big time. Your car heats up over 100 degrees. At least here in california... Most likely that was the issue. My SE16's are pretty durable... Sure some have broken within 30 or so days - but that's from hardcore use! ( 5 days a week - games or practice /puck-stick time - and one day out of the weekend ). The cooling down isn't much of a problem - it's the excess heat it receives. Especially if the sun light is directly hitting on it - they get really toasty... It ruins the integrity of the shaft for sure.

Take your sticks out! :)

- Since I don't believe in stick bags ( looks too much like I'm wheeling around a golf bag ) - If I know the arena I have to drive to is a few hours away with hot-summer conditions, I cover up my stick with some sweaters I have in my car - the AC also helps :D but at the end of the day, regardless, the sticks are removed from the car.

the SE 16 is a great stick & you shouldn't shy away from buying another one.

This is good to know. I always leave my sticks in my car. I'll change that immediatly.

don't leave your skates in the car either. Here in Vegas the inside of your vehicle can like an oven.

Composite sticks hold up better than wood in the heat. After a while the wood just drys out.

Since I live in Texas, I experience temperatures in the Summer that are extreme. Leaving gear out in the car all day would not be the best idea, sticks included.

If you think about it, baking skates doesn't expose them to temperatures that are that different than what the inside of a car can get to, not to mention that they would be in the oven briefly while baking. If you had to go to a game right after work or something, and the temp. got up to over 100 all day, it would be like playing right after baking them. That would not be good at all.

I try not to leave the gear in the car for any period of time during the Summer if at all possible. Even if the sticks seem ok, they may be breaking down internally.

I am with you man Texas dry heat and then cold winters can kill gear in the garage. My parents used to make me keep my gear in the garage but when I showed my dad my ability to flex a 65 flex stick easier then a 40 I was able to bring them in ;)

I was actually recommended by a LHS guy here in North Richland Hills that if I would like to bake my skates, leave them in the trunk while I was at work, then as soon as I get home put them on like they've been in an oven. Haven't tried it, and don't plan to, but it made me laugh.

Anyone here experiencing this in the Vancouver area? We've had 34+ temperature all week and while my cars sits in an underground garage all day my one95 is at home on the back patio (partly in the shade). It's funny cause I thought about the temperature change and how it must affect sticks the other day, but didn't think to actually move any of my stuff. Well, game tonight, guess I'll find out pretty quick.

I mean, aside from temperature issues, I don't leave my stuff in my car for the very reason that my garage already has 2 other cars in it... This means: All it takes is for some dimwit to see shiny sticks in a car and break in just for that... They may not even play hockey - They'll just assume its expensive stuff... That's all it'll take to ruin my day here in California, lol. I live in a nice neighborhood but there are too many desperate idiots around here trying to get some extra cash now-a-days. ;-x

So... if I can avoid paying for a new window and some S17's & ONE95's, TOUCHE! :)

My friend next door got all of his gear jacked, unfortunately. he used to leave it outside as all of you guys did. bleh. Just my OTHER 2 cents.

CRAP!

I'm just seeing this thread now (@ work) and I just put my gear in the trunk this morning with my stick partially sticking through the back seat from the trunk, I did put a towel over the sticks (theft preventative). I'm gonna be paranoid all day at work now lol

But I'm also parked by a lot of trees that does block the sun.

I do find that the trunk does not tend to heat up as much as the cabin of the car. No windows and it's dark so it doesn't heat up to the same extent as being in cabin of the car.
