Pants or Girdle?

Recommended Posts

I've worn the traditional ice hockey pants/socks combo since I was a little kid. Just wondering, how different is it playing on ice with a girdle and some sweatpants or roller hockey pants? Also, do you guys have any suggestions for a good girdle? I'm just thinking about switching to something a little more streamlined.

Thanks!

You can alwasy get a girdle and pant shell... I'd recommend that if you make the switch, 'cause I know you'll get hell if you wear roller pants on the ice.

Well I'm assuming you don't play super competitively anymore. I don't either, but from my experiences girdles don't offer the protection of pants. I'm a in a beer league, so for me it doesn't matter. Just get a shell over the girdle.

One more for going with the shell over the girdle. They can be pretty cheap (as hockey stuff goes).

Anyone care to recommend a lightweight, minimally-restrictive girdle for beer league (ice) while we're at it?

Thanks!

Just so I'm not misinterpreting things...

So I wear a girdle, then a pair of ice shells, and wear sweatpants or something underneath? Or do I continue to wear hockey socks?

And I'll 2nd Sickwilly's request for a good, cheap but fairly protective girdle suggestion.

I've never witnessed this

I don't really see the point of wearing a girdle/shell/hockey socks...why not just wear regular hockey pants? I was considering wearing a girdle/roller hockey pants instead.

I don't know why I'd catch hell, either. It's still protective equipment, I just want something maybe a little more streamlined.

Thats the girdle I will be getting. Like people before me said, you will be losing protection. Girdles though are a lot lighter and offer more mobility, they are not as bulky as normal pants.

Thats the shell but from what i can tell any shell really works with any girdle. If you are really worried about the less protection part I THINK there are some shells out there with extra padding. But another pro I think with girdles over pants is that if you join a different team you can always just buy a cheap shell to match colours rather then all new pants.

You'd catch hell because of Ice player's mentality that roller isn't real hockey. This attitude normally only applies to the younger crowd though.

this is the exact same setup I've been using since One95 first came out (late april I think) - like it very much in terms of mobility & low weight. it's also very well vented - both the shell & the girdle have mesh on the back.

The protection is ok for a beer league, just don't block any shots - these WILL hurt :)

I just made the switch from pants (warrior hustlers) to girdle (easton st10)

st10

I can't believe the difference in mobility and speed. But I'm small and the hustlers weigh a ton. I tried the one95 girdle on but the thigh protection felt weaker compared to the ST10 so I opted for that. I highly recommend a girdle, but that could all change once I take a bad spill or a slapshot in the leg :)

What do you mean don't block any shots!? It's Beer League... BIGGER THAN THE NHL!!!

Switched from XXXlite to XXXX girdle with prostock shells. Love the adjustments of the girdle leg wraps from tighter to looser on the thigh. Best part of the girdle besides the reinforced crotch is the leg zippers with velcro to cover the zips on the shell. Infinite adjustment

I'm probably going to wind up getting a one95 girdle in an XL. Does anyone know if the legs adjust open to a pretty big size?

the velcro on the legs is pretty large - I went with size M myself since One95 girdle is so stretchy & is supposed to be tight, and I'd say there's good 2+" range in the legs

Anyone have an answer for me on this?
My pants are a size large Tackla 52. Hope this helps

I'd go a size up if you are trying to fit them over pants. It says "Built to fit over Vector Pro Girdle" which is: this

Pants are way bulkier than girdles. I have a girdle and the shell is the same size and fits pretty tight.

Hope that helps.

They sell Pant shells as well, which I think are roomier than girdle shells.

I was looking for a pant shell with leg zippers. I found a pair of Eastons but was hoping to get these. Any other suggestions Please feel free.
