Increase stick flex?

Recommended Posts

heat it up before you go out on the ice.

the likelihood of a failure is greatly increased, though.

Brett Hull used to put his sticks in the oven before a game. 11 minutes at 250 degrees, umm, that's a tasty hockey stick! Really, the only option is to increase length or you won't increase the flex- generally.

GOD there's an awful joke waiting to be made.

Hull didn't actually heat up his sticks, did he? They were already 65 flex.

fatwabbit is correct. Oggies have built in flex, so they will make the stick whippier at the same length.

That doesn't change the length, but it does change the angle, right?

Oggies are much longer than "Standard" plugs but even with the stick cut back down to the same length, your stick will have a bit more whip. The traditional model does not change the angle, the modern style does change the angle.

I might have to try one some time.

Just to clarify something, the angle change is at the wrist. The bottom of the Ergo (where is attaches into the shaft) and the top of the Ergo are straight in line with the shaft. However, the curve in the middle puts the wrist at a slightly more relaxed angle than a straight line of the shaft does..

As an aside, as much as business is improving for Joe, I discovered one thing this summer that's making it a bit more challenging for him. What I mean is we visited him when we were on our East Coast trip, just around the time that he was setting up a new production facility, so he asked if we'd like to see it. He showed us a couple of prototypes he's made for some NHLers and they are exact replicas of the way those players tape those sticks -- as far as anyone could tell, their sticks appear to be regularly taped sticks. At least two of these players are household names, but he's not allowed to disclosed who they are....yet. (I'm not sure if that is per the NHL or the players, although I think it is per the players.) As we all know, the hockey world tends to revolve around NHL endorsements, so it's kind of ironic to be gaining NHL acceptance, but no way of conveying that!
