Red Wings 2009-10 thread

Recommended Posts

I was watching the Wings games that the Datsyuk highlight is from. One of the best third period and overtime games I've watched in a while.Nail biting and edge of my seat for most of the 3rd and all of OT. With Datsyuk and Bertuzzi putting up some fancy goals I was disappointed that the still lost the shootout. Howard let in what should have been saves by reacting too early or just reading it wrong. He still has lots of room to improve his game before he's truly at the skill of where his numbers have him (#3 and 5 for SV% and GAA?).

It is really frustrating watching the Wings not be dominant. It's not like it was when I was a kid when I had a Lions-like expectation, they've been top of the league for how many years?

I don't think Lidstrom will be a Norris candidate (though Stuart might :P), and they're scraping together points for 8th place in the West.

So what's the biggest issue? Losing too many people between injuries and offseason moves must be up there.

Anyone see any deadline moves? As much as I hate to say it, moving Franzen and Kronwall for a solid D-man might be an option. If those two can't get healthy by the deadline I can see moving them for a healthy vet to try and keep the load off of Stuart, Rafalski and Lidstrom.

I don't see them parting with either Franzen or Kronwall. Both are signed to long contracts, and if you're looking to get rid of them due to their injury history, what team in their right mind would give up a solid defenseman for them? Once everyone gets back, this team should be locked into the playoffs, probably anywhere from 5-8th seed. I still wouldn't want to play Detroit if they were the 8th seed and I was 1st.

Those goals were lasers, you can't fault him for those.

Hossa's was a beaty of a shot, the Toews goal was a laser that went under his pad stick side as he was slow to drop the right pad and made no try to keep his stick down. The Sharp goal he went down early and left the high glove side well open.

I'm not saying he's trash, just that he isn't a top tier goalie. In two more years getting the bulk of the games he might be tip-top. I'm not expecting him to be a shootout master having all of 50 games under his belt.

Here's the full shootout.

It wouldn't be the first time injured players are moved to the bottom teams for someone healthy for the playoffs. I know they'll both be ready for next season, but will either one be ready in two months? Kronwall's expected back date has been extended a number of times, and Franzen needs more time but hasn't skated as far as I know. To make it into the playoffs and past the first round they either need to be firing on all cylinders or shake things up.

What the hell was that at the end of the Coyotes game last night?

Lidstrom starts looking like he's got his confidence back and they crumbled. Granted it was a 6-on-4 followed by a 6-on-5, but it was just abysmal. The OT goal had their 3rd defensive pairing against the 'Yotes top line and everyone played "get the puck, forget those other guys and that passing thing!"

I am really getting sick of these game-changing disallowed goals.

Get used to it. When Holmstrom is on the ice there is a 50/50 chance of the goal being disallowed. I do agree that it is getting ridiculous though.

When you play in the goalies face and on tiptoe the edge of the crease violation/goalie violation rules your gonna have some get disallowed now and then.

Just when you think the season will end on a high note. The last couple games from Western Canada haven't been HD on FSN, making it painful to watch the Wings let up those 2 early goals to Edmonton.

They just looked like slugs most of the game. The more you see Rafalski though the more you like what you see. The guy shows up to play every game. At least they got 1 point out of last night.

That was actually Howard. Crosby still acting like a 10 year old when he loses. Poor baby. Any reason to rough him up is good, even better when he brings it on himself. Good game by the wings though. I think they'll like being the underdog this year.

Lol, I was so wound up I typed Os instead of JH! Guess Cindy was a bit frustrated at the way they kept him under their thumb most all night. I believe it was Zet that he crosschecked right as the game ended and then the fun began.

I do think Howard earned alot more respect from his team for going after Crosby. Most goalies skate away from stuff like that be he went right at him. Crosby said "I don't think that's where he should be. I don't know what he was doing over there." He was standing up for his team mate, that is what he was doing.

I think any respect came from sticking up for a teammate, not going after Crosby specifically.
