A column of black smoke and flames were rising from the Caribbean Petroleum Corp., a Gulf-owned gasoline warehouse and distribution center on San Juan's Bay. Authorities said the cause of the blast and the scale of the damage and injuries were not immediately clear.

Prices have already been on the rise thanks to the weak dollar, this is going to make it worse.

And all because the future supply might possibly maybe be slightly impacted. Gas prices are the biggest racket going. It is the only business where current selling prices are effected by future buying prices.

All they have to do is bring production back up at a few other plants and they're right back up to current capacity. Hell, the refinery in Aruba has been shut down for more than six months. There is plenty of capacity out there, but demand is way off.

Nah, insurance is by far the biggest racket.

I heard the best bit on insurance and I can't remember who did it now....

He went on about how we pay our whole life for this "insurance we never see." Then you get into an accident and you're forced to pay a large sum so your insurance doesn't go up. And the cycle continues, always paying for something intangible

My economics professor (who has an MBA from Harvard) said today that he predicts gas will be at least $4.00 a gallon by February.

Given the way the dollar is going down the tubes at the moment that is certainly possible. That will help kill off any momentum towards a recovery if that happens.

We were down around .88-.89 per L a week ago...back up near .97-.98/L BEFORE this potential supply problem. I feel for you guys with big trucks...my Ranger is bad enough to fill a 73 Litre tank at $1/L...that only lats 9-10 days. You guys with F250's etc...must be takin' it pretty good.

Believe me, with all that's been going on this month for me, insurance has been a big helping hand.

Fortunately I haven't been driving much over the last two months.

I know the feeling. It's enough to keep the lights on and the bills paid until I can get back to work.

Predictions are absolutely worthless. just though you should know that.

Just stop forgetting gas prices WILL go up and buy smarter cars...

Did you know that a Prius does more damage to the environment than any other passenger vehicle over its life? The battery production and disposal, among other things, makes it the least environmentally friendly new passenger car.

Plus you have to spend about 5 grand every 100-110k miles, to replace the battery. More energy usage overall and more expense, just more evidence of how strongly marketing and half truths warp thinking.

Not sure how many of you guys watch it, but on BBC America, there was a Top Gear episode where they raced a Prius around a track with a V8 BMW following it, and the BMW actually got better gas mileage over that lap.

Their point was it's not really what you drive but how you drive it that has the biggest effect on MPG.

I think the increase in gas prices against the economic fundamentals is a good sign we may be in a W shaped recovery. Gas over $3 a gallon will destroy consumer spending in the holiday season.

James May and Jay Leno made the strongest case for the Honda Clarity that I've yet seen. I just won't be moving to California to get one.

Plus, don't forget that the Prius and Insight were both illegally dumped in the US market but avoided charges due to their "environmental impact" by figuring out how to cheat the MPG testing.

i wasn't trying to piss on him; just saying, people should take "predictions" like that with a grain of salt. Its fear mongering and for the most of it misinformation. (just though you should know that....:))

Do you have anything that documents this? I'd be really curious to read this. It has been my argument that a diesel is a better environmental choice because of the lack of batteries, but I've had little documentation to back it up.

makes me sick with this "hybrid" market that is based on complete lies. US car companies were going in the right direction, making more and more cars above 30 mpg, but they had to invest in hybrids, which were never anything more than a buzzword.
