2009 Colorado Avalanche Thread

Recommended Posts

Boy I figured a 9-1-2 start they deserve a thread.

Nice to see a ton of young talent plus more coming next year (e.g. Shattenkirk).

Anderson has been a HUGE upgrade in the net since the cluster of Budaj and company.

Duchene, Galiardi and O'Reily have been great young players to add to Stastny and Wolksi.

Hell is there a faster skater in the game than Cumiskey? Holly carp that guy can skate.

He looked good at times but kept giving up huge rebounds. That and the fact that he has LOTS of mental lapses.

I would have rather have kept Raycroft as backup vs him.

I will say that the Quincey for Smyth trade is looking good. Quincey seems to be the real deal and the total package you want from a # 1 or 2 d-man.

Defiantly a win-win for both teams.

10 - 1 - 2 which is the best start in Avs history.

Guys with names like Stastny, Wolski, Duchene, O'Reily, Quincey, Galiardi, Cumiskey and Anderson have a better starting record than ..

Sakic, Forsberg, Drury, Bourque, Blake and Roy ???

Its early but that is pretty damn impressive for a team that was picked to lead the the hunt for Taylor Hall.

It also looks like Wolski may FINALLY be turning into the 40 plus goal scorer he should be. Hopefully ...

Wolski is one of my favorite young players. I hope he really breaks out this year. I seem to root for any young and upcoming team, I hope thats not bandwagon hopping, i just love young talent.

I'm very excited about the start. The Avs have always been my team. Its great to see them having a good start. Lets hope they keep it up. I wasn't too sure that they would be doing very well this year so lets hope it continues

It's crazy to think Anderson has more wins in October then Roy. Wolski and Stastny are dynamite, really talented young group that will hopefully continue this terrific start.

Could the surprising play have started with San Jose, and end with San Jose?

They didn't look very sharp last night from what I watched. There are times when they control the puck and dominate the other teams zone, but that seems to be far too little.

I'm really excited they've been putting up the wins, but I'm kind of waiting for the bubble to pop since they really seem to just be riding Anderson and his spectacular play.

Possibly, but most teams would come out flat with 3 road games in 4 nights.

That said Anderson looked amazing and Duchene and Wolski played well too.

Either way it looks like the start of the rebuild is a very good one.

Agreed, they are way ahead of where everyone thought they'd be in the process right now. Sacco really seems to have his stuff together too, I was a little skeptical of him when he was hired.

The Anderson vs Roy comparison is not very equal; Anderson started both ends of back to back games three times, and started every game played. Most goalies have had days off in that time period.

And O'Reilly should be leading the hunt for rookie of the year now. He is third in the league with even strength points (or was a couple days ago).

Quick power play goal by Hejduk has us off to a good start tonight. Hopefully they can put together another solid effort at home, and keep rolling. Little nervous that Budaj is playing tonight, but I guess Anderson needs a break every once in awhile.

Haven't heard who's starting in net tonight, I would assume and hope Anderson, although Budaj did alright the other night

Hopefully the attendance will be up so we won't have to see a million more articles about how horrible of a hockey town Denver is.

What the hell? Are last years Avs back? I admit I didn't see the third (fell asleep) but we can't be back to blowing the lead in the third every game now can we?

Interesting note though, that has me slightly less worried, Pittsburgh, who also started very quickly has roughly the same record as us over the last 10. (Avs 3-6-1, Pitt 4-6) Maybe it's just a slight blip, and we can pick it back up.

or... the vancouver canucks just woke up.... the avs were severely outplayed last night in the third period as you mentioned and it looked like once the nucks started playing like men, taking the body and forechecking the avs wilted a little...

as a nucks fan though I'm happy to see the rivalry between these two back on a level playing field after a few years in the wilderness for both teams.
