New skates or custom insoles?

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of CCM Vectra 10's that I purchased 2 years ago. I've had them baked and skated in them about a dozen times. Problem is they cause alot of pain. My feet hurt to the point I need to take a break after 5 minutes in them. They were fitted by my LHS at the time but I'm wondering about the fit. I have Superfeet greys in them now but they don't really help. I just tried the pencil test and they fail miserably. I also did the Dr. Schol's foot machine yesterday and it said I have low arches and high foot pressure. I want to start playing hockey so I'm trying to decide if I should go with custom orthotics or new skates. Any suggestions based on my foot type? Also, are there any recommendations for a good LHS within 2 hours or so of Columbus Ohio? We only have 1 in Columbus and they are the ones who fitted the CCM's so I would rather try someone else. Thanks.

Gary

Skates. The only thing that MIGHT help a LITTLE bit is to remove the heel cup from the superfeet insoles... That's not going to help a lot but it might let you manage a couple free skates while looking for something that fits you correctly.

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is two hours east or route 70 will probably get you pretty close to KO Sports in Cannonsburg... Small shop but does a lot of business.

Depends on what your LHS has. I normally fail the pencil test for most skates and have a wide foot. The only ones I have had success with are Graf 709s and Nike Flexlite 12s, my current skates. I had a pair of Eastons in wide width in between the Grafs and Nikes which were okay, but not like the other two.

I would suggest the Grafs or the new Bauer Flexlites as they are built similar to the Nikes. If your LHS has neither, look on ebay. I got my Nikes virtually new for $100.
