Problem: think i bought skates that are to big

Recommended Posts

So I was previousley wearing One90's size 9d, went skate shopping this week and purchased some rbk 9k's size 9d also. The felt great in the store, and i was satisfied with my purchase. Skated on them for the first time yesterday and my foot doesn't feel as snug and i think it moves a tiny bit. Might I of purchased the wrong size, or is my foot just going throught an ajustement period between changing askates and it should feel better within a few more ice-times.

When I was looking through skates trying to decide what best fit my foot, I started off in the Vapor XXV size 9 but then due to my foot needing a different style boot I ended up in an RBK 9k that was an 8.5

Every case is different, but I figured I'd give you an idea of what I went through with a very similar situation.

loosen all the laces on your skate and slide your foot as far forward as you can without crushing your toes. Then measure the amount of room behind your heel.

One90 in size 9 and XXVs in size 9 would differ (One90s will be longer). We're not talking diffferent boot last here.

I personally wear a size 8 in a Bauer or Easton skate. I wear a 7.5 in an RBK skate. If you look at the manufacturers recommendation on Hockey Giant they recommend 1 1/2 sizes down from your shoe size with RBK skates. Chances are you may need to exchange them for an 8.5 size to get the same fit as you had with your previous skates.

There is just enought room to fit a pencil between my heel and the back of the boot.

Assuming you put it in vertically ;) that's right in a gray area. Any more than that and you should go down a size, any less than that and you know you have the right size.

Do you think that maybe wearing a thicker sock or changing out the footbed would make a difference, I skated on them again this afternoon and I felt like it was less of an issue already.

I had this same experience with my xxv skates. I ended up having issues with my heel popping up. I asked a lhs guy and he suggested going sans socks. I was using UA socks thy would wick the water and he said that the little bit of moisture may help keep my foot in place. Also I went to superfeet because I could bring them back if it didn't work. Superfeet + barefoot (for me)= a comfortable fit.
