New Shin Pads

Recommended Posts

I am in the market for new shin pads. My current pair are ridden with cracks and I need a size up. I need a pair that is available in 15". I am a shot blocking defenseman and have a strict limit of $60. What can you boys and girls recommend?

Matt

Bauer pro defenders

Bauer XXXXs

Bauer One75s

RBK 9ks

Reebok 6ks

Warrior Hitmans

Basically anything that is close to the model above it, or a model on clearance.

So would the xxvs be as protective as the bauer xxxxs and do you know about the warrior method? I read the review but want to here more from other people . The reeboks seem good also

I wear the 6k's and get in the way of a lot of shots, Never had an issue with padding and they are super comfortable to wear.

I just picked up some Reebk 10Ks and if the 9Ks are anything like them (they look very similar) I dont think you will be disappointed. It does however exceed your strict budget by $5. http://www.hockeymonkey.com/rbk-hockey-shi...ards-9k-sr.html

Haha so it seems I will be going to south Windsor later this week and will pick p the old 9ks thenksnto all of you

Same here.

The only thing I have ever noticed on my 6ks are how loud they are when a puck ricochets off of them.

I concur on RBK shin pads. Second to none on the market. IMHO you can't but a better and more protective shin pad.

Whatever brand you decide I would make sure they include wrap around straps. Wrap arounds greatly eliminate the need for clear tape and keep the pads firmly secured. Most of the new Bauer shins have them (called "anchor straps"). I believe some Eastons and other companies use them as well. Personally I use Bauer One 55's. FYI main difference between the One 55's and higher models by Bauer (75,95) is the calf protection.

That is personal preference. Many of the guys I know cut off the straps beacuse they are uncomfortable. Many of us use our tape, some guys prefer velcro straps and others - I like this look personally - use shoe laces.

I love the straps. If they're uncomfortable, try a different pad, they don't all have the same configuration.

Some straps are also more effective then others. On my Synergy 300s, I still need to use tape. On my SE16s (wonderful pad BTW, if you like a slimmer fit give it a shot), I have never had to use tape, and have never had a problem with the comfort of the straps.

I use the older RBK 9K's and they are superb. I've taken a couple good blasts and they did the job very well. They're very protective with a calf wrap. Not sure you can still find many of the old style around though. I found a couple pair on a closeout plus a discount also and am set for a while now.
