Fivehole101

another skate choice

Recommended Posts

I posted a thread earlier this year, with a picture of my feet. I never ended up buying new skates because I couldn't find anything that was in my price range, and fit correctly. I went to my lhs recently and they are clearing out 9k's, I tried them on and they felt good, but not as good as my current flexlite 12's. I would consider going back to flexlites, but I would prefer a stiffer boot, and more protection because I play defense.

I am going to try on the 9k's again, but the heel felt a bit loose. Another option is the one95, because they are beginning to go on clearance, but the volume concerns me. I have never been able to fit into bauer skates, but the onw 95 may be an exception.

Any insight on what else I should try?

What about the Flexlite Pros, those are supposed to be more stiff.

(Didn't read your other thread, so that may have been suggested already.)

I'd like to get some Flexlites, but saving up for this summer's wedding has to take precedence.

Looks like someone needs to get there priorites in order!! :D

I have now been to a number of hockey shops, and I have decided on one95's. however, I cannot seem to find 7EE anywhere except online. the 6.5EE is a little short, and the 7D is too narrow. Can anyone verify that these online retailers(hockey monkey, hockey giant) will continue to carry these skates until the release of the one100? Also, will the prices drop below 400? (possibly 300 like the vapor XXXX) I just don't want to miss my opportunity to purchase these skates, but I also don't want the price to drop right after purchase.

For $399 I don't think you can go wrong wih the ONE95. They may very well drop down like the Vapor XXXX's did. But with that you take a risk that you can find your size. Best of Luck

how do the one95's compare to one75's? I just cannot seem to justify the 399 price tag. I am a college student, and hockey is certainly not as important as my education. I know the one75's are essentially last years one90's but have they fixed the problems with the tendon guard, etc?

Oh they are. We're saving money for good beer and booze!

Buy stuff that's halfway good for the wedding, save buying the good stuff for the honeymoon.

Well instead of starting a new thread I decided to revive this one. I have been thinking about the one95 for while, but the stiffness worries me. I am coming from flexlite 12s and Idk if the stiffness will be too much. Has anyone made the switch from flexlites to one95s? Stiffness is the only part that is keeping me from ordering at this point.

If you're concerned with the stiffness, just get another pair of Flexlites since you know how they fit already. Your initial post of wanting something stiffer, but then say you worry about the stiffness of the One95. Seems contradictory.

Have you tried on the One95? They are a VERY different fit from Flexlites. I've tried both on and while the One95 is more roomy than the Vapors, its nowhere near as roomy as the Flexlites. I tried on a D width Flexlite and it was wide enough for me, but even the EE One95 was not wide enough for me. That is significant fit difference.

Coming from a 9k to flexlite 4.0 pros the heel lock is so much better. They feel equally if not stiffer than the 9k. Remember the 4.0 pro's are very equivalent to the old 12's, while the 4.0's are the old 18's. It all comes down to what fits best. If thats the 4.0 pro's, you cant go wrong with that skate...

Considering how different the fit is, you should be more concerned about that. Unless your Flexlites were a terrible fit for your foot, the One95 is most likely not going to fit.

The one95 is possibly the stiffest skate in the market, and Im not sure if that is the best option for me. My flexlites are not the perfect fit for me, because I have high arches. They fit well because they have been baked a number of times over the last few years. This has allowed them to really conform to my feet. The one95s feel much better without baking than the flexlites did.

Clearly you need to add your LHS as your wedding gift registry and list some flexlites, a few composite sticks, and some other goodies.

Well I pulled the trigger on monday, and they came today. the whole situation was weird. I was planning on ordering them over the phone and just pick them up on my way home for spring break, but the total was $150 more than if I bought them online. I will just have to get them baked on my through nh next weekend.

I have a question for one95 owners though. I wore them for about an hour today without socks to see how they would feel and I began to get some pain on the balls of my feet and big toe. Could this just be caused by the fact that they need to be baked or because I need the toecap stretched? The heel lock and arch support were great, much better than my flexlites.

I would definitely go bake them as they are a form fitting skate. I know with mine I went down half a size when I bought them and my toes are near the end of the toecap but I have never experienced any pain...
