New Stick.....

Recommended Posts

Ok here is a hypothetical question if you could get any OPS as long as its at about $100 what would it be. I ask this cause i will be getting one soon as in before Saturday and as long as the brand makes a Sakic-esk curve to them...I'm in. What are your suggestions....whats the best....what is your fave? Let me know. I have been a wood stick guy for my whole life but i am prepared to make the jump.

I wouldn't get a new $100 price point OPS. Most are crap. I'd either go with last years high end OPS or a high end two piece. Personally, I'd shell out a few extra bucks for a one95 two piece setup.

havent you asked this question a few times in a few different ways?

the best thing to do is go to the shop yourself and find all the sticks in that price range, then pick them up & get a feel for them, and if need be, report back to this thread with your options. lots of hockey shops will have a variety of new, or old stick on clearance, at the $100 price point.

there's a shop in vancouver that has an '07 7k snake grip pro stock for $60. deal of the century if its going to be your first OPS. relevant to you? no, but the point is that your store might have deals we don't know about.

another option, have your mom call up tsr for a sakic clone pro stock stick. $130 shipped ain't a bad price for a new one95 or x60. (that is if they have what you want in stock)

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/farrell-one-pi...key-sticks.html $90 for a high end stick can't tell you much about it from personal experience but a reliable source told me it's well balanced and surprisingly light.

+1

I think you'll find the top end stuff is worth the extra 30 bucks. I also agree with the shaft suggestion. 100 bucks or so would put you in the market for a whole bunch of different high-quality shafts.

yeah i may look into the shaft and blade combo as well. Sorry if i may have asked this question in different ways before....i think?.....I Just got back into hockey in DEC. after stopping playing in '01 so I'm still trying to catch up on the stick front, for instance when i quit playing the main(if not only) OPS was the Easton Synergy and they were expensive as hell.

Plus i was hoping to get a personal opinion of whats peoples fav stick in this price point. At this point in my hockey life i dont need a $150 stick

There are options out there for those like you.. or me for that matter who don't think it's necessary to shell out over a 100$ for sticks all the time. Sure you can find some Pro Stock here and there at some LHS or Ebay that will be better than a price point stick, however it's not always the case and sometimes you just don't have time to wait for it to ship etc. Also, there's often a question of talent. I can't justify spending 250$ or more on a stick for me. Wouldn't help me much more than the mid point sticks I'm using and considering that I'm playing Shinny/pick up hockey....

The last stick I bought was a mid point SMU stick. I paid a 140$ plus taxes which is the most I ever paid for a stick. I can certainly "feel" some difference when compared to my Canadian Tire Reebok XT at the kick point and a bit more power in my shot but that's about it. That stick I bought is a Vapor X:Shift and was told that it is the equivalent to a mix between the X:40 and the X:50. here the X:40 is 99$ and the X:50 is

199$. Having compared both in store yesterday I honnestly can't say that it's worth spending an extra 100$ for the X:50. Had I tried it on the ice, maybe I'd say otherwise though, who knows. Anyway, if the X:40 is anywhere near my X:Shift in terms of performance, for the price you just can't go wrong with the X:40 that is IMO closer to a mid point stick but priced at a low point stick level. So if i were you, I'd give it a try and I'm sure you'll find a curve similar to a Sakick in the Bauer line up but I can't tell you wich one though as I only use the P88 and never really used anything else except for similar curve like the P38 on a Reebok but I think the Gagne may be close. the other more knowledgeable people on the forum will be able to guide you better curve wise.. or check the Pattern Database at the top

If I was going to spend $100 on a stick/shaft today, it would be a one95 tapered shaft. Performance is very good and you can use whatever tapered blade you like.

Where can you get a One95 Tapered Shaft? The only ones I've seen are standard.

Too bad it has stick'um on it or I'd be all over that.

Consider the Octogun at $90. I've heard good things about it on shooting and puck feel but it's not the lightest of sticks...

Try a Harrow Shaft Blade Combo using the coupon code ELITE TEAM for a 50% coupon. It may not be a top end stick, but for the price it's well worth it. I had one of the OPS (Which is just a 2 piece they glue together) last year and I loved it.

I've held them in store and they don't have stick'um.

i would view this as a great option as well. on my highschool team a few different players are using them.

what about the Easton Stealth S5 Shaft? Its pretty cheap in price and with the ability to change blades...its more bang for my buck.

Other than its price, what's so special about the S5? ALL shafts have the ability to change blades...

I'm also in the market for a new stick.. Anyone here used the Farrell one? I'm currently deciding between that and the Warrior Mac Daddy... Also, I have the OPS version of the S5 right now, and I'm not really a fan... It seems too whippy and weak for me, and I have the 100 flex one...

also you should keep in mind that most ops can be converted to a shaft if you break the blade(except sticks with weird tapers like the octogun or s17/s19). there's a massive thread dedicated to this if you are interested.

+1 on calling up tsr. from what ive heard on here they are great and if i was in the us i would be broke =)

as well to answer your question about the s5 shaft...i have one with a wooden blade in it that i modded up...its an 80 flex and its great for puck feel and i love the whip and velocity of shots i can get off with it. i am 5'8.5, 175 lbs just to give you an idea about flex feel

i also have an s5 for ball hockey =)

i think it cost me 40-45 canadian...not bad plus the 15-20 dollars cdn for the wood blade.
