Recommended Posts

my blades are rusting on my new ccm U+ 07 skates...im not sure of what to do to take the rust off and if you have any ideas on good deals or reccomendations on holders and blades together it would be great because im not a fan of the ccm e-pro holders

Dry them off and quit leaving your shit in your bag. Take it out and let it dry.

Also, if you're wrapping the blades in hockey socks that have absorbed the salty excretion that is sweat, stop. the wet doesn't help and the salt is even worse.

As for getting rust off, take them in to be sharpened. the sharpening itself will remove rust from the bottom, and any competent sharpener will stone them, removing the rust from the sides.

It's not the steel and holders that's to blame or the rust.

Leaving soakers on will only allow moisture to oxidize the steel. The best thing you can do is dry your steel, pop the soakers on until you get home, then remove the soakers and let the skate dry out. The quicker you remove the moisture...the less of a chance the steel has to oxidize.

Seconded, as this is what I do - dry the blades off after playing, put the soakers on for the drive home (which is at least an hour & a half most of the time...stupid lack of a local rink), then take them & all my gear out of my bag when I get home to dry on a cheap laundry drying rack or the floor. I want to mount some hooks in the closet to I can hang my skates upside down.

I put my skates in a clean pair of hockey socks. I haven't had any problems thus far with rust or pits. I do take them out of the socks when I get home though.
