goblue9280 33 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 As a kid, I played on a team where there was a white kid with the last name black and a black kid with the last name white. It was a humorous thing, but nothing over the line ever happened. In fact, my first experience with racial epithets in a game didn't occur until college. Which surprised me considering Michigan is a diverse campus with high academic standards... but I guess there are idiots everywhere. Anyhow, I was playing on a team with a couple of asian dental students... they each played wing and were centered by a white guy, so THEY called themselves the twinkie line. In one game a guy on the other team repeatedly called them "chink". We ended up taking it to the intramural board, who banned the guy. So that'd be my suggestion... rather than letting him drag you down to his level, report him to the league. Any league with an ounce of integrity isn't going to put up with that bull. Chadd 916 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 On the good side we used to have two Mike's on our team. White Mike, and Black Mike. Now we just have Black Mike. He tells me he can tell my wife likes chocolate ice cream. I tell him he looks like Hootie from Hootie and the Blowfish. All is well in the locker room. He grabs my ass a lot though. We had two guys with the last name of Smith on our team and while we were waiting for our new jerseys, they actually had the same number. The scorekeeper was confused after a goal and after she stumbled around trying to find a diplomatic way to ask who had the goal, I finally told her "it was the black Smith". The Mafia Line 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 The rink I play at, there is this kid who's father is a famous black director and die hard knicks fan. I always wonder what this kids experience is like, because if someone says anything to him and it gets back to his dad, there might be a pretty big problem. UMWhockey 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I have had to deal with racial slurs a couple times this season with a kid I coach. He is one of our better players and one of the bigger players on the ice, so when other teams get frustrated trying to stop him, the N word comes out every once and a while. It wasn't good the first time it happened as my player flipped out, but he has been getting better about trying to deal with it and try to be the bigger person. It's never a good thing, but one of thoes things that is hard for a ref to catch.
furlanitalia 1 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 It hard because players lie about it, so we have to have heard it. It's like spitting, unless we see it, it's hard to call.

saba 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 Just remember that what one person of color deems acceptable b/c he is your friend bud teammate etc..does not fly with another person of color. For example I watched a young brother let some teammates allow a pet name that I guess was cool with him, if you uttered the words to a brother off the street you best be looking for your head or the hole that would be put into yaMy advise is just dont: yellow brother, monkey boy, etc....is a sure fire way to start some b.s. of get your ass handed to you. No matter how familiar you think you are, no matter how comfortable you might be, your team member does not represent all folks of his/her race but just that one individualIF IN DOUBT know its most likely NOT COOL with me don't say it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I like you just want to play a good hard game and don't need to be reminded of any color except the absence of color of the ice, blue, and red paint
