Eagle PPF and ability to bend wrist?

Recommended Posts

I a debating trying another set of Eagle gloves...

I use a very long stick for a player of my height and my upper-hand stays bent whenever I am playing. I typically buy gloves that have a bottom/inner-wrist area attached to the cuff by elastic or some other form. Gloves like the Easton SE16, Vapor XXXX Pro, CCM V10 ('09), and One95 ('09). These all have worked for me.

I have tried an Eagle glove in the past - the X88. I got very bad wrist pain on my upper-hand when I used these gloves. Although it could have been un-related, but when I made the switch to the Vapor XXXX Pro's, the pain went away. The X88 seems to have a larger/taller inner-wrist guard than the PPF though. It is also a longer glove - 14.5 vs 14.0...

Just wondering if owners of PPF's have the ability to "come down" on the wrist very easily. I don't want to make a $200 mistake and no one around my area carries Eagle gloves for me to test-fit before purchasing.

The pad is there but it doesn't restrict movement. I cannot say whether you'll like it or not but it physically doesn't restrict you.

Got them shipped to work today (leaving straight to a game tonight) and I have no complaints with them! I can come down on them fairly easy.

Impressed with the fit. They fit a lot narrower than my X88's did and obviously 100% MSH palm is very nice... Although they are post-buy out, they are still pretty darn good gloves!

The 2010 gloves are much more narrow than the 2009 or 2008 versions

I'm am not sure which year I got. I did read your posts about the fit changing every darn year though!!! Did finger length change from year-to-year as well? I remember some people complaining about stubby-fingers, but I don't find that true...

I got the last pair in black from IW. They have the solid Eagle name on the cuff (not just the outline) and of course the Canada tag is on the inside of the glove. I will snap some pics when I get home...

I played in them last night and thought they were great. There are a few things I would change, but mostly personable preference:

1. The finger length actually seems a little (stress little) long for me. Especially in the index and pinkie fingers.

2. The fingers volume is a lot more than I am use to. Perhaps a little more padding?

3. The palm kinda bunches up a little bit. Perhaps single-layer MSH2 throughout?

4. The slash guard padding comes just a tad too high. Perhaps X72-style short cuffs?

5. Prefer mesh-style gussets over the MSH2 gussets.

I honestly want to get a pair or two of custom gloves and Eagle just seems the way to go over Warrior (bang for the buck). I am not sure if they are as "picky" friendly Warrior is....

aaah, did I get something wrong then?... I finally made it to ship me some Eagles PPF to Germany for a reasonable price. I got the black ones with the outlined logo and the flag on the outside...are those the 2010 ones then? If, then it would not be bad for me, they fit me perfect, as I got smaller hands. The index is just a tad longer than on my TPS R8s but not as long as Bauer's. I miss the seamless fingers like on my R8s, love those...and yes mesh gussets would be nice. BTW I love, how quick they dry...I've never seen that before...and MSH2 is out of everything...I am addicted.

the tag on the outside is the pre-buyout model made by Eagle. the tag on the inside is the post Vaughn buyout model:

I find the Vaughn made gloves a little tighter, a little stiffer but still an EXCELLENT glove.

Thank you shoeshine! I was referring to your post, when I was searching for the 'flag outside'...I am chilled , as I know now, I could fit in a little tighter PPF as well...need another pair soon! Man, they are so sweet. The only European seller I know wants 250 $ shipped...got them for 119$ + 30$ shipping and then payed 30$ tax. Uff.

If you use the Eagle Customizer, you can ask for mesh-style gussets. It's not actually in the form, but you can put it in the notes. You can also ask for the "kangaroo pockets" like in the old X72 gloves if you find the gloves too wide.

I have heard of the kangaroo pocket, but am still unclear what it is... I thought it was that pocket in the thumbs, but obviously I am wrong!!!

Anyone ever have Eagle do a custom cuff with short extensions?

the kangaroo pocket is actually in the inner backhand pad. it allows you to add or remove extra padding in that spot to help increase or decrease volume as needed.

That's actually really good for me. Thank you very much, did you order yours online or from an LHS?

I ask this because I can't really buy them in the correct color scheme from my LHS, and I was wondering which online stores had the 2010 model of the gloves.

I have 4 pairs of PPFi's. 3 are older models and the other pair is the newer model. 1 was bought from Pure Hockey, 2 from Ebay and the last one (also the newer model) was bought from somebody on the Ice Warehouse forum.
