going from grip to non grip sticks

Recommended Posts

(the site froze on the other topic while i pressed submit, lock that one.)

does anybody have trouble shooting when going from a grippy stick to a non-grip one?

i usually use grippy sticks, and when i try any teammates sticks(same curve/flex) i can't shoot at all. it's like the grip helps me with my follow through, and i depend on it or the stick will spin out.

does that mean my shooting mechanics are off? am i not gripping the stick hard enough or something?

technically if you have good form you should be able to shoot with anything right?

Well I used to use grip sticks, now I use clear. At first I felt a little bit out of control because your hands are sliding all over the place, but like with everything else; you get used to it.

Now clear sticks help a lot for stick handling in my opinion, because you can just slide your hand up and down fast enough to do whatever you need.

Just keep practicing shooting though and you'll be fine.

Bauer's one## line have a nice compromise between the two, I forgot the actual name of it, but it's half grip, half not..highly recommend those.

Personally I hate grip sticks for stick handling, as Hradsky mentioned.

I find that I dont have a problem switching back and forth. The only non-grip stick that i found too slippery was the xxxx. I candy caned it and it feels better.

Tactile on the corners

Helped with my stone hands tremendously. Quite like it.

But I don't mind either type of stick. Went from a tactile on corners to a nipple grip Dolo and didn't notice much of a difference.

I prefer non grip sticks, but I use gloves with good palms. I can't stand the nash that comes on most retail skates.

I have a TPS R10 which gives the best of both worlds. It's non grip on the top 3rd of the stick, which is good for stick handling. The middle 3rd has a light grip coating combined with a textured shaft. I always thought it was a great idea.

Other than that stick, I use clear sticks. I have no problem loading my wrist and snap shots with a clear stick.

Is it just me or is that a quadruple post? ^

Don't see that every day...

Anyways, Stick'Um type grip is awfully grippy. I think Nipple Grip/Tactile is definitely the best of both worlds.

I always used non-grip sticks as well up until recently I got a Dolo with nipplegrip. There was a learning curve at first, but I like it better now than the non grip. I think stick handling was hard to adapt to than shooting in my case.

I find shooting better with grip sticks, stickhandling with non-grip.

But, as I've said, I don't really have much trouble adjusting to either.

My gloves have a pretty good grip on them, too.

I did have a Bauer X:60 shaft, which was waaay too slippery. Had to candy cane that one.

The first version of the stick'um grip was actually much less grippy. I still have a tri flex gold shaft and it is one of the only grip sticks I've ever tolerated, along with the gold synergy grip.

Tactile and nipple grip are my favorites

I like tactile and whatever they use on the reebok sticks, it grip so sick. If you want serious grip, 6 hours before a game spray the shaft with clear coat. It dosen't mess up your palms and it has a death grip on the stick. Only done it once,

+1 on the rbk grip. I love the grip on my pro stock 10k. It's going to make a sweet shaft

the AK velvet grip/mission titanium is the best ever, the rbk is also very good but still not on that lvl, other than that i really hate using grip even if it helps with shooting a lil bit
