Norris Finalists

It will be either Green or Keith. Whether I agree with it or not, Doughty is too far back in points and plays too much in the Pacific time zone.

Green's numbers dwarf anyone else's. Hard to vote against them. I think Doughty is the best player though, but can't vote for those numbers and justify it. That being said, Keith will win lol.

What's sad is that's probably true. Doughty should win as overall he probably the best of the bunch (although I've heard his fitness levels are terrible).

This is why I think they should create a Bobby Orr/Paul Coffee type award that recognizes the top scoring defenseman, that way the Norris can go to the best overall defenseman and not just the guy with the most points.

I like this idea. They dont have an award for the 'best forward'. They have points and goals and more often than not, mvp. Norris would be the best 2way dman and the Orr/Coffee would be the best offensive Dman.

Should be a tight vote. I think that Doughty's light attitude on the ice might go against him. The voters want to see someone who APPEARS more focused.

Not sure what you mean by light attitude and seemingly less focused. I posted this in the Van-LA thread but i guess its relevent here too.

I say Doughty still wins it, he may not get as much exposure as Keith or Green do, but his excellent performance at the Olympics will make up for that. He ended up going from 7th defenseman to top pairing, so that really jumps out at people. But that said it wouldn't surprise me if the voters end going with the "Mike Green can't play defense, and I never really watched the Kings play, so I'll give it to the other guy" mentality.

Olympics shouldn't be considered as the award is for excellence during the regular season.

No they shouldn't, but good play is still good play especially in high pressure environments. I bring it up because the majority of the voters won't have watched him as much as Green or Keith, so they'll probably base their impression of him off of than more than anything else.

You can't base your impression on something that happened outside of the voting criteria. Norris voters shouldn't have taken into account Doughty's performance at the Olympics just like Vezina should have ignored Miller's.

Yeah, I think Jagr might get a few votes for Hart, he played well in the Olympics lol!!

They shouldn't but whose saying they will?

Doughty isn't necessarily light focused but he definitely takes the game lightly in the sense that I don't think the pressure gets to him. They're always showing him dancing on the bench, singing, and just enjoying himself. If that doesn't effect his play then I see no harm in it. Even at the olympics in the gold medal game he was smiling, laughing, and grooving with the music. Yet still was one of the best defencemen on the ice. Having that much fun out there while still playing that good of a game should be seen as an asset in my mind.

I just see his attitude as very unique and not how a typical defensive superstar acts. While I find it enjoyable to watch I don't know if a traditional player like Adam Foote for example would appreciate it.

They obviously aren't considering Keith's play this year or he wouldn't have been nominated. I'm a Hawks fan, but he doesn't deserve to be on the list.

Didn't he start off well and then go steadily downhill after December?

It never affected JR's play.

His numbers really went downhill after the Campbell injury and he was split from Seabrook. There is no way you can put him on the same level as Lidstrom, Chara, Bourque, Leetch, Chelios and other past winners. He turns the puck over way too much to be considered for the award. How he is even on the short list absolutely amazes me.
