"Old" TPS Shafts

Recommended Posts

Are any of the old TPS shafts any good? There's a shop around me that always has really old and interesting equipment for sale, and they've got some older XN10's for cheap. I believe they're before the Redlite versions came out, they have some yellow shafts and brownish red XN10's. Any of these worth picking up or should I let them continue to collect dust?

For the older XN10's..... You should allow them to collect dust and immediately provide me (and only me) with the contact info for the shop.

I have a couple of yellow/black R2XN10's that are great. I'n not sure from your description if they are selling any of those.

Haha, are you talking about the reddish brown ones?

I'm fairly certain they only have intermediate and junior, and I was thinking about picking up an intermediate for dryland (from what I recall the TPS shafts were way whippier than anything else). I'm not even sure if they had any R2's left.

The shop is very much hit or miss...I did find some old new stock Jofa and DR pads. Surprised at how much I disliked the Jofas considering everyone around here seems to love them.

I recall the non-XN10 versions of the Red Lites being reddish-brown. Is that what you saw? From what I remember, those ones were pretty solid shafts.

Yeah, there were reddish brown shafts and yellowish shafts with blue writing. I'll post up what I see as I'll swing by there on the way home.

Okay, they had some Adrenaline OPS, a Response Plus OPS, an R2 (non XN10) shaft, and a couple original Red Lites. The only senior shaft they had was a regular flex Red Lite...otherwise all intermediate. Any of those worth picking up for cheap?

The Response Plus (red) and R2 (yellow) seemed pretty decent. The Red Lite intermediate shaft (standard) seemed like it'd be way too short, even with the wood plug.

The Adrenaline was a XN10 with foam added for vibration dampening. The Response+ was good but not the most durable, in my opinion.

The CS2 redlite was fantastic, that thing is a tank, it's a fantastic shaft.

Just going by what's been said on this forum. Just a quick search(first thread I decided to click) showed what I thought of the Adrenaline and a followup post that said it was the same as the XN10... and I know it's been said since then. Glad that you cleared it up though. Link to thread

Found another thread

Also found that it's a piece of rubber in the shaft, not foam.

I never said you were wrong, in fact I said "Glad you cleared it up." I just said where I got that answer from and that it was a repeated answer, trust me it was a repeated answer... Every time someone asked and I said I didn't like the Adrenaline compared to the XN10.

Subli, are those old yellow r2 tapered shafts a good model then?

I had 2 and they were pretty good, I moved on to ops after that but they were one of the better shafts ive used

Picked up the r2 intemediate for $40 after talking him down. It's way too light to balance nicely, but at least I'll have an intermediate to fool around with for a while.

Hell of a shaft. Played last night and the snappers are great...had a nice goal off a snapper that went side post in and across.

Today I found an old tps r2 blade to match, an old messier curve that was a forsberg clone. They actually had a bunch of what looked like pro stock blades including a couple Chadd would love. Much shorter hosel than the harrow but it balances way better and the stick is super light now.

The old R2 shafts were nice, I used them (and the original Response) before moving to the XN10. If those are the original version of the R2 blade, I actually liked the feel of them more than the "improved" version. If you have any idea of what blades they had (RH) and have a moment, can you send a PM?

Yeah I remember you recommended them so I took a chance. They didn't have any rightys unfortunately, they did have a p31 lefty. Lots of pro stock skates, gloves, etc. Kevin lowe pro stock warrior too, haha. And no tackla pants in my size, which I really wanted to find.

The best shooting stick I ever owned was an Andy McDonald pro-stock Adrenaline Control. The blade finally cracked but I still can't bring myself to tossing it. I've never had a stick like that again, and years later I'm still kicking myself for not buying the other 2 at the store. Around the same time I had picked up another Adrenaline (not a Control) pro-stock, same curve and flex, but it was not the same by a long shot.

Feels like about 65 to me. Sounds like it will break in and get whippier. I did buy a used XN10 R2 intermediate shaft once but that was too whippy since it was probably used to hell and back.

I just got an Adrenaline Pro Stock shaft (Petr Cajanek) on ebay. The ebayer (who I believe is honest) bought it at the Blues' shop. I tried some searching and found this thread. It does not appear to be a cut OPS. Anyone else ever use a Pro Stock Adrenaline shaft? Any opinions? Might it be a repaint? (I couldn't find any hints inside the end of the shaft) Thanks in advance for the help.

If it is tapered, it is probably just the Adrenaline shaft. The blades and shafts were "fused" after being produced separately. I had an Alfredsson adrenaline control that I pulled the blade out of and used the shaft for a while, performance was good.
