NextBobbyOrr 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 Well, with the loss of the Canucks to Chicago, I wanted to vent. Not about losing to them, because they really are a great team but about bandwagoners. There have been so many bandwagon comments on facebook and everything else that It's making me PMS. Half the time, they don't know jack shit about hockey it just really annoyss me..anybody feel the same?
Chadd 916 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 The hilarity of them jumping off the bandwagon almost makes up for the annoyance of them jumping on in the first place.
skyscrape 5 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 I was talking to this gorgeous women at a beer league game and it sounded like she knew what she was talking about at first. She then said, "I used to love Sidney Crosby! But then when he was traded to the Redwings! Now I hate him just because I hate the Redwings!" I laughed so hard it was ridiculous! This all started when I said I was a Redwings fan. I have been a wings fan since I started playing and following hockey in 1990 and I almost always have to explain that when I state my loyalty! I even had a Penguins fan say "Oh what a surprise! Another Wings fan!" Again I started laughing due to the fact that a PENGUINS fan was saying this to me! The Mafia Line 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 It reminds me of 94 when the Rangers went on the run, everybody jumped on that bandwagon. But then with the Rangers and now with the Blackhawks... they're compelling stories of teams that haven't won for years, were greatly mismanaged and then begin winning. Whats funny about bandwagons is that the NHL hopes at a few non NHL fans join a bandwagon and decide to stay.
Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 You can always tell the Pens bandwagoners with their powder blue Max Talbot/ Sid Crosby jersey.Wore my Barrasso jersey the other day and had 3 differnt people ask me who that was. I was like damn. haha. I mean its great and all that tickets/revenues are up, but its really annoying at the same time to the diehards. Overall though if it means growing the game and getting more people exposed and interested we should all be happy.

rangers1234 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 I grew up in NY in the metro area and the people love their teams. I live in Colorado now and people love their teams when they win (not including the Broncos). Before I moved here I used to get annoyed at this, but now I understand why. In places where there is a ton of stuff to do, people just don't have time, want or need to be die hard fans. It doesn't mean they are not fans of a team, it just means that they don't have time to commit to them unless their team is winning. Plus getting older, you have to start sacrificing things. Are you going to sacrifice time with your kids, or knowing every player on the Penguins roster?

rangers1234 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 Seems to me that your example of NYC disproves your theory. And how is that? Lat time I checked (lived there for 25 years), NY metro area is misserable (weather wise) for about 6 to 8 months a year and your stuck inside. There is a reason that places in colder climates that don't have outdoor activities have a better fan base then warmer climates or places with a ton of stuff to do outside in the cold like CO. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 Always funny to hear Pens fans complain about bandwagon fans. If it wasn't for those fans then they'd be cheering for the Kansas City Penguins.
hockeyfreak7 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 Same deal here in DC. The whole Ovechkin love gets really annoying at times. I love Ovi because of how he plays the game, but I hate the people who dont even know what makes him so good.Hilarious watching the bandwagon crash and burn after Montreal though. psh 25 Report post Posted May 12, 2010 Always funny to hear Pens fans complain about bandwagon fans. If it wasn't for those fans then they'd be cheering for the Kansas City Penguins.Right on. If you care about the game, don't feel too bad about bandwagoners. They represent an expansion of the game. That's good for everyone in my book.

NextBobbyOrr 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 I don't expect people to be die hard fans, (In my eyes, you like a team or you don't) but the whole on and off thing is really irritating. I mean, if you start to like a team for bringing in a superstar (Crosby, Ovie, etc.), that's cool. It's building the game. I'm all for having hockey expand. But it's the whole on and off kinda thing. I mean, you go on a good run everybody's cheering. You hit a slump and they're the worst in the world. Just really annoying.

jds 20 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 I find myself rooting for various players rather than their teams. If a team has a bunch of players I like they tend to be the team I support but I just appreciate the players on various teams. Like Lidstrom, Datsyuk and Cleary so I like the Red Wings. I like Malkin, Talbot,Crosby and Fleury so I like the Penguins. I like Cammalleri, Subban, and Halak so I like the Canadiens. I like Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith so etc etc. So this year's playoffs are conflicting me a great deal. I need to latch onto a single team somehow so I can just buy the mugs and window flags and be done with it.
