mgoblue 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 I just hope Texas (and, consequently (probably), A&M) go to the SEC instead of the Pac-10. Maybe it's an eastern bias or whatever, but I've always looked down on the Pac-10. The only times I've ever enjoyed watching it was Oregon State over USC, Toby Gerhart's senior year, and some Jake Locker performances. And with USC starring down the barrel of mediocrity in the near future, I'm not sure the conference has too much to offer entertainment-wise at present.I really hate to see the Big 12 go... there was something very Keith Jackson about it. Great fans, great rivalries, great accents, great football. That said, Nebraska to the Big-10 is an absolute dream. To my dismay, it may be a couple years before Michigan is truly relevant, but can you imagine Nebraska marching into State College on a Saturday night? Columbus? Man, that'll be cool. Hordie Gowe 17 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 If offered by the Big 10 (which may have already happened) Nebraska would be foolish to decline. They would make more money from athletics and the academic benefits of being in the Big 10 would open up major opportunities for the university. The only thing at this point that could save the Big 12 is if Notre Dame accepts a Big 10 bid, which right now seems unlikely (Its not all just about football independence why they haven't joined). The stumbling block for Texas/Texas A&M to the PAC 10 is the inclusion of Baylor and/or Texas Tech. The PAC 10 from an academic standpoint would rather have Baylor, but being a private religious school does not bode well with some PAC 10 members (see Cal/Stanford) and to join the PAC 10 there has to be a unanimous vote by all current member schools to allow a new member. The PAC Ten already has a lower tier academic school, current member Oregon St is a tier 3 university and could live with current tier 3 universities Texas Tech and Oklahoma St as members, especially with the amount of resources ($) Texas would bring with them. Hordie Gowe 17 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Colorado to Pac 10 a done deal. Press conference scheduled for Friday but they may end up announcing the decision sooner.http://www.dailycamera.com/news/ci_15268160
starsfan71 9 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 I really don't want to see A&M and Baylor split because that is Baylor's only meaningful rivalry game.ahhhh hamburgers :/
raganblink 82 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Its awesome all around for all parties except those who get left out (ISU, KSU, KU, BU). Mizzou while not with someone else just yet can find a good home. What's probably going to happen though if Mizzou can't find a home they'll with the other 4 merge with the MWC and boise st to create another super BCS conference. The other 4 no matter what will probably join the MWC anyways. What I find funny is how Texas is playing the good guy card, and saying we've tried everything we could do to keep the big12 together. Bullshit. If they wanted to keep the big12 together they wouldn't have made the CCG unfair and have it in Dallas indefinitely. And they wouldn't be pursuing their own network that would screw the rest of the league as they wouldn't get as much revenue sharing since when they renewed they'd get less money for it. Big12 was doomed from the start. Unequal revenue sharing (mainly created by OU, TU, A&M, although Nebraska could have stopped it and instead agreed with it), power of conference immediately moving to Texas (literally, offices in Dallas), and the destruction of the most important rivalry in the midwest, and top5 in the NCAA, OU-NU. The Big8 bailed the 4 Texas teams out in 96, and instead of still having power over the conference they got it all.Its probably a given now that the PAC10 is now the PAC16 (or atleast soon will be), so its going to be very interesting to see what shakes up in the MWC, BIG10, and the bigeast/acc/SEC. Rumor is the big10 is going to take 3 BigEast schools, thus forcing ND to join the big10 aswell, and then the bigeast is screwed, do they eat up the acc with the SEC or do they take the 4 Big12 schools or do they get eatten by the acc/sec? God this month is awesome; world cup, futurama, total realignment in ncaa. Awesome.
starsfan71 9 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 As a Baylor and A&M fan I find this kind of shitty. I loved watching Baylor and A&M play each other and I have been a Baylor fan for a really long time. I really don't want to join the Mountain West conference but it's better then going to the WAC.
Moose 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Nebraska fits with the academics and sports level of the Big Ten. I'd welcome them to the conference any day. I'd also like to see Iowa State come to the Big Ten... To have Big Te Wrestling be Nebraska, Iowa State, Iowa, Penn State, MSU, Wisc, Minn, OSU, and maybe Mizzo? Wow...
raganblink 82 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 ISU has nothing to offer except wrestling. Their academics are on par with Iowa and Nebraska, so its not really a big deal for them to join. For every other sport they are worthless.http://www.isutobig10.com/that site is hilarious. I'm in the heart of ISU country, and all we are hearing from their supporters is how they deserve to be in the big10 b/c of their relationship with iowa and nebraska and how they are good at academics and how it would be wrong if the big12 split and they didn't land in the big10. its kind of funny actually. their more or less century of leaching off of the big6/8/12 to maintain high level conference status is finally biting them in the ass. They never invested into athletics and thus never doing so is their demise as being in a power conference. They'll all land on their feet (the big12 losers) but they wont ever be in the same prestigious conferences ever again. MWC looks like a great fit for them and boise. It will definately create a powerful conference, but still short of where they are now.Basically though, the big10 is going to have to skip over mizzou, rutgers, ND, pitt, cuse, UCONN, maryland, WV, and probably cincy and louisville before they'd take ISU. Essentially, they have no chance in hell to join the big10.
Moose 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Not so sure about that.Rutgers, academically, would fit the big ten (and remember- the big ten really pushes the academics). I'd like to see Pitt and ISU be added. It would also, geographically, make sense as they are within the current big ten boundaries and are fine academically. ACC and Big East schools won't jump to the big ten because there basketball is better. Teams in the acc and big east can have .500 seasons and make the dance (but, I guess now, everyone will...). Big Ten won't skip over notre dame. ND is skipping over them...

mgoblue 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Nebraska fits with the academics and sports level of the Big Ten.A little bit of a stretch. I'm not too hung up on the academics, but they're not quite on par. From US News & World Report. Univ rankings: NW 12, UM 27, Wis 39, Ill 39, PSU 47, OSU 53, PU 61, Minn 61, IU 71, MSU 71, Iowa 71, Neb.

raganblink 82 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 A little bit of a stretch. I'm not too hung up on the academics, but they're not quite on par.PSU was at the same level when they joined the big10. being affiliated with them helped them tremendously. it will help nebraska significantly. moose, while I wouldn't mind seeing isu being added, the main factor from all of this expansion is TV$. Of the potential appliciants into the big11, besides ND, Nebraska will bring in the most$. Nebraska's fan base is top5 in the US. There are literally thousands of them from NC that went to the Wake Forest game several years ago. Most of the people at the USC game were from SoCal. There are Husker fans everywhere. With ISU, there fanbase is concentrated in Ames, Iowa, and Des Moines (even though they don't even control DM, we're 20% NU, 40% Iowa, 35% ISU, 5% other). There isn't any TV market for ISU. Nebraska brings it. Mizzou brings it (adding KC and uniting STL). Rutgers brings it (put them in NYC market). Cuse brings it (upper NY). Pitt, Maryland, Cincy, Louisville, WV, BC etc they all have a viewing demographic multitudes larger than ISU. Point is, since this isn't about academics and its about football money, ISU doesnt and wont have it. They can't bring in a crowd or draw one on TV. Only time they are Natl. TV is VS Iowa or NU, or on a rare occassion Tex or OU. They have no chance.

raganblink 82 Report post Posted June 14, 2010 from me :PI forget, where are you from? Here in DM, those numbers are spot on imo. Iowa has the majority in DM. NU might not have 20%, but they atleast have 10. So if you want to take anything away, have 45 Iowa, 40 ISU, 10 NU, 5 other.Needless to say, ISU is screwed. I actually feel sorry for their fans. fawn111 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2010 Hate to see the Big 12 go.I am a Nebraksa fan since i started watching college football at age 6 or 7. Take into account the history of the SWC and the Big 8, the conferences that merged into the Big 12 and you have nearly 100 years of tradition that is all but dead now. NU vs OU in the 70's was THE college game of the year. Despite Nebraska's recent troubles which seem to be behind them, they are arguably one of the 5 best schools if not the top three in all NCAA in football. And any conference that gets them is instantly upgraded by a tremendous amount. The Big ten makes a lot of sense. The schools all have similar make-ups academically, student body wise, alumni wise, and geographically. The Big Ten needed a marquee school. Either NU, Texas or Notre Dame. The Big Ten has long lost its luster to the SEC and more recently to the Big 12. It is a top heavy conference with only two to three teams being relevant on an annual basis. Sure you get the occasional runs from a Wisconsin or an Iowa, but it remains a 2-3 team conference. Nebraska will add considerable depth to the conference, and will compete for the conference title annually. If the PAC 10 does indeed add Oklahoma and Texas, then that becomes a very good conference. Probably rivaling the SEC. Had my choice, I would have kept the Big 12 as it is and let the Big Ten search elsewhere for the 12th member.

I agree ISU is in some trouble, but I think things should work out for us. Don't forget that this is the school that brought over 70,000 fans to Tempe in December for the Insight Bowl. Yes, the Insight Bowl. Someone somewhere will pick up on the underestimated fan base the 'Clones have. I hope a revival/renewal of the old Missouri Valley Conference and the Southwest Conference is in the cards. North (MVC) - Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Oklahoma State. South (SWC) - Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.
fawn111 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2010 Big 12 is intact.Texas got the lions share of whatever "new" money is generated and they are now happy. Texas was the key all along to the survival of the Big 12. With Nebrasksa gone they now only have Oklahoma to contend with as they anually challenge for the national title. in short, it's Texas, it's tough rival Oklahoma and a bunch of also rans.... Good new for Texas and Oklahoma fans. Basically all either school has to do is beat the other, and smack around the creampuff non-conference games they schedule and the rest of the big 12 and it's pretty much a guarantee that they will be in the BCS title game. That is unless there are undefeated Big Ten and SEC schools in the way.
starsfan71 9 Report post Posted June 15, 2010 Luckily Texas A&M has had some of the strongest recruiting classes in the nation over the past few years so hopefully they can keep them in check. So now the Big 10 has 12 teams and the Big 12 has 10.Do you think any renaming will go on? They seemed absolutely terrified at the concept of playing in the SEC and the PAC10 didn't fare them much better. Now they can play in a less relevant conference while temporarily making more money. If anyone should be pissed, it's A&M. With Oklahoma and Texas remaining in the Big12, they are still on the outside looking in.
