Been a Ranger fan since 91. I was 5 and my dad bought me a Messier poster. Still love the Rangers every October...not so much by April.

I do have a soft spot for the Wild. I love their jerseys and it's something about that whole state of hockey thing. I love that there is a place in this country that likes hockey as much as in Canada.

I think Stephane Matteau would disagree with your timeline

Well I was born and lived in Detroit for awhile so I love the Wings with out a doubt, but Ive moved around so I like to follow more teams than some. St. Louis being one, not a huge fan or anything just like to keep up with them. I've lived in Dallas now for about 8ish years so Stars can tug on my heart strings pretty well. Last but not least is the Flyers; when I was a kid I liked them just because Coffey left the Wings and went to play with them and I can honestly say I had no clue that he was that good I just thought his name was funny at the time so he was my favorite player. Now I don't really care about them as much though. So after all that Red Wings hands down still is the #1 team of all time.

I was a Detroit fan when I first got interested in hockey when I was a kid. Since then, Ive switched to being a Blackhawks fan simply because Chicago is the closest team to where I live (Madison, WI).

Personally, my thinking is that you should pick a team and stick with it. I cant stand people that constantly switch their loyalties to whatever team is good at the time. A true fan loves a team in good years and in bad years. The Hawks could not win another Stanley Cup for another 50 years and (unless a city in Wisconsin gets an NHL team) I will still be a fan.

Leafs from the day I was born ('73). Witnessed some great years (91-94, 99, 02), and pretty much everything else you could consider the "lean" years. Favourite player all-time - Sittler (have his # on my personalized Leafs plates). Would rank Clark, Gilmour on that list too. Living across the river from Detroit is interesting, as you can see how "on and off" a lot of Wings fan are. My Dad's company had a suite at Joe Louis, and we'd always get tickets. During the 1980s, and early 1990's, it was funny how you could almost walk up and get excellent tickets. Except when the Leafs were in town.... :)

I've sometimes questioned why I keep following a franchise like the Leafs, but I always will. The Leafs have the most loyal and dedicated fans of any team around. I'm as die hard as they come, and will always cheer for them.

In relation to above - Detroit is one team that I have never, and will never cheer for. Can't stand them. Ottawa is a close second too.

I do respect almost every player in the league of course (a few exceptions apply here). Some of my all time favourite players are non-Leafs (Cam Neely, Cam Janssen - 'cuz I know him, Scott Stevens, for example), but - always the Leafs for me.

Proud member of Leafs Nation!

I admire Leafs fans for their loyalty to the franchise.

Thank you! I live in PA and I have a HUGE problem with Phillies fans in baseball. The fans were no where to be found until they won the World Series in 2008. Then they all come out of the wood works. Friends that I know for a fact know nothing about the game of baseball are all of a sudden Phils fans...it drives me crazy.

Back on topic, I have been a Wings fan since I started playing hockey. The first team I ever played on wore red jerseys and we were the Red Wings. I watched them get swept in the 1995 Finals, but I knew I would be a fan for life.

That being said, I still root for the ex-Wings players (with the exception on Hossa) as long as they're not playing the current Red Wings

It will be interesting to see where these fans are when the current core ages out and there could be a couple rebuilding seasons. But at least these fans are because the won a WS, so I think this is a more than fair tradeoff.

I dont have much love for Philly fans in general.

Well, we probably like you less biggrin.gif

The problem with the Phillies was there was no indication that the owners even cared. I was a huge fan growing up until about 1996 or '97. we used to go to 10 or so games a year and by 97 you knew they were just going through the motions. in '04, they basically said, we'll give you a new stadium and a new team, and since then they have been a true force. I will agree a lot of people jumped back on in 08, but when the new stadium opened and a they really seemed to put a lot of thought back into the team, a lot of people were refreshed.

Bruins fan for life. Orr was the man when I was growing up (yeah, I'm that old)

I like all hockey but I only care if the Bruins win or lose.

I've been an Oilers fan since '93 (yeah I know, the first year they missed the playoffs). Only reason behind it was because of Gretzky and his glory years. I only picked up hockey in '92 and the first game I watched on TV was the Kings and Rangers. I knew of Gretzky but didn't know much about hockey yet. I ended up watching a biography of his (Gretzky - Above and Beyond) and got me idolizing him even though I missed out on his better years. Of course I rooted for the Kings during their Cup run, but after that, never cared for the Kings. I think what made me stick with the Oilers during the 92-93 season was their uniforms. I always loved the blue and orange colour scheme and stuck with them since.

Being from Windsor, you would think I would get caught up in liking either the Wings or the Leafs, but I was able to make I own decision on who I liked.
