Reebok 11K Skate Issues

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Just bought a pair of 11K in 6.5D. Length wise, they are perfect. However, after using them once, I noticed that several of the eyelets have moved significantly. On the left skate the 6th and 7th eyelet are now pretty much right next to each other. I don't pull very hard when lacing up my skates either. A couple of the other eyelets have also moved noticeably. Will this get worse to the point where the eyelets rip right out?

I have only skated in them once. Are Reebok/CCM skates known for having eyelets ripping out?

Also, when these skates were baked, the staff member put them in the oven for 5 minutes. Is it possible that this may have significantly weakened the boot to cause the eyelets to warp?

Should/can they be returned??

Thanks

Im not a skate expert, but if its an equipment malifunction they still should be under warranty. And I have Rbk 7k Pumps and have had them for a year and just had one eyelet rip out, thats it

It's possible they were overbaked, I'm not sure if that would void your warranty and leave you dealing with the LHS for a replacement. Discounting that, this is an issue that would be covered under the manufacturer's defect portion of your warranty. If the eyelets begin to pop out and you continue skating without replacing them you will eventually tear through the eyerow. For a once used pair of top of the line skates, making use of your warranty seems sensible.

I didn't baked my 11K's and the eyelets are still intact.

I'd bring them back to your LHS and see what they will tell you.

I believe, according to Reebok, that the skates should be put in a 200 degree oven for no more than 2 minutes. I have no knowledge of how Hockey shop ovens work but 5 minutes seems too long.

After the skates were baked and you put them on, did you pull UP on the eyelets when lacing the skates tight or pull OUT with the laces on the eyelets away from the boot? Pulling up on the warm metal eyelet against the soft eyerow after baking will begin the process of moving the eyelet. Also, how much time between baking the skates and your going on ice for the first time?

I also have 11Ks. I baked the first pair and the pump bladder ended up leaking so I took them back and was given a new pair which I didn't bake. The new pair are fine so far, but on every pair of Reebok skates I've owned, the lower eyelids do go rather quickly. I usually wait until the are quite bad and then get them replaced at a local shop.

Your shop made an error, go ask for a new pair.

200 degrees, 2 min, lace snug not tight. Best to use a CCM fit machine, doesn't require a very tightened skate.

Next time you might want to give it a try, and not bake them right away.

To me on almost all skates (except those really designed to be baked alive, U+ foam, ), baking = destroying the skate if it's not done very carefully by someone who knows what is doing..

To be honest I would never bake a RBK skates (not sure the pump system likes to be baked)..

Baking your skate is only in case of discomfort after few trainings.. If you bake them right away does it mean that they didn't feel good already in the shop ? Cause in this case maybe you could have gotten a another skate.

But yeah 5min (u didnt mention the temperature) chances are that your skates are f.....

Just got back from my LHS. I'm not satisfied at all. Basically, I was blown off. The acting manager of the store basically looked at the skate and said, since they are not ripping out yet, there's nothing that they, nor Reebok will do for me.

When I mentioned about the 5 minute baking time, he basically shrugged me off like it had nothing to do with the sliding of the eyelets at all. He said that thing can happen when you don't pull straight up when tightening your skates. I felt like he was trying to sell me a line. Am I warranted a replacement? He said I can contact the LHS's head office and talk to the buyer if I want.

Should I contact RBK, or wait until I talk to the stores buyer at their head office?

If I did want to contact Reebok, anybody know who the rep in NS Canada is?

I buy all my high end skates from this retailer (at different locations sometimes, but it's the same company).

This is not acceptable in my opinion.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

If I tell Reebok about the 5 min baking time, will they tell me to go pound sand? lol

I can't believe my lhs is gonna leave me out in the cold on this one. If I don't get a fair resolution to this, I'm never buying anything from them again.

Anybody have similar issues with this skate?

Buddy I feel for you. There's nothing more heartbreaking than getting anything high end and finding out there are pesky little problems that make them almost unusable. Keep pushing to have something done about this. Your doing Reebok a favour because your making them aware of a possible problem. If they want to get back their market share from Bauer and Easton they need to deal with things like this. Customer service has to be a priority. And if they won't budge I'd definitely look at another manufacturer for my next skate. Their loss and your gain in the long run.

Talked to my lhs head office. They basically told me to go pound sand. I'm going to contact Reebok myself. Should I go through their website, or do they have a customer service line?

Any thoughts?

Any updates here ? I have the same problem on my 2 weeks old 11k. Eyelets are moving everywere. My LHS don't want to remplace them, and they say RBK would only repair them and not replace them. I feel so sad spending a suck big amount of money. I'm feeling like they rip me out.

Thanks for helping me

Call the toll free number to the customer service dpt her ein Montreal. Any and all dealings I've had with CCM/RBK cs has been excellent.

I pulled eyelets through on two sperate pairs of CCM V08's at a LHS after baking - they were baked too hot for too long. I pulled straight out, and the eyelet below pulled through, but luckily I hadn't paid for either pair at that point. Found another pair and didn't bother baking. If the 11k has that same material along the eyelets I can understand why.

I bought a pair of CCM U+12's that had a defect in the ufoam where my ankle bone was pressing against the outside of the boot. When I called CCM/RBK directly about this problem I didn't even have to finish my sentence and they were asking what shop I bought them from and directed me to go back and I would get a new pair under warranty. I think CCM/RBK will take care of you just fine. I was told they WANT to know when something goes wrong so they can FIX the problem.

Good luck with your 11k's and I hope you get them replaced.

I have to say, RBK has no liability or responsibility to do anything with this issue. This is entirely the fault of the LHS, and they are liable to replace the skate, not RBK. If they baked the skate for 5 mins, it's their fault. You can't expect RBK to replace the skate, they have specific temp and time instructions for dealers to follow. This would be akin to asking Chevy to replace an engine because a dealer used the improper oil recommended by chevy. Take the LHS to small claims court and report them to the BBB. It sounds like they are a big chain, a BBB negative should get some action.
