Pro Skates

Curious - for these pros that get their skates custom made (and many of them now use molds vs. plain measurements) do they get boots that already account for various foot deformities such as ankle bones, haglunds etc?

Or do they simply alter length, width, depth + usual customization, but overall still get boots based off retail last, and then punch etc as needed just like us mere mortals?

Thanks!

I'm sure I've read on here before that Forsberg has his skates formed at construction to take into account his horrendous problems. I imagine his is very much a special case though.

I've heard about Forsberg's case as well, but was curious whether that was really an exception or is becoming a reality nowadays?

If pro skates aren't completely confirming to pros’ feet then what’s the point of making molds - just to get an accurate sizing at the factory that's all?

JR?

His case is very special due to all of the problems he has had with his ankles. From what he has said, he wants something that can't be made with current technology.

Pros have the option to go either way. If their feet are relatively normal then measurements and a tracing will suffice, and if not then they can go to St. Jerome and get a mold. The vast majority don't require a mold.

of course (except that all custom skates are made in St. Jerome), but are you saying that if they do get a mold the skate would be made to fit the exact mold?

You kill me.

Isn't st.Jerome only for Bauer skates? The Ccm/rbk plan is in st.Jean

Yes

Yeah. Certainly quite an undertaking to make a skate for glass ankles

I hope he never reads that, he might get tears on his 2 Stanley cup rings, 2 Olympic gold medals and his 2 world champs medals..

Just out of interest, how do you suppose all this fancy skate technology (e.g. Eastons coil-tech) works when its been bent into some wierd shape?

You see a lot of the older guys still rocking the leather skate boot with new boot graphics. Most of the grafs I've seen are the old ones from early 2000's.
